I think your back rounds out too much on the initial pick up.

But that being said I'm 5'9'' and that leaverage point to reach down and pick up the bar isn't the same when you are 6'3'' haha

True. The lighter weight looks much better and goes up faster as well.

As someone that has "paid the piper" dead-lifting for over 10yrs with what I believed was pretty good form......Just be careful and deliberate with every rep.

And if you're lively hood requires you to be pretty physical, you need to ask yourself if being strong in that lift is worth it. Because one fuck up and it can be over.

    Sincerely,

    Former resident of Snap City.

I’ve seen worse form. Upper Back rounds a touch. At lighter weight I wouldn’t be that concerned about that level of round, but at close to 600 lbs is definitely try to get that little kink worked out. Lower back seems to stay pretty solid.

I can’t reach the 500 lb mark in DL though, so, what do I know?

    He’s right you know

That said. That wasn’t too bad. Yeah your back rounded but I’ve been at enough competitions and watched enough videos to see just about anyone who is maxing effort let’s their form slip for the sake of a PR. Doesn’t mean it’s the best practice, just saying it happens and like you said with lighter weight it’s easier to focus on form. But like @Matt3400 said, be deliberate on every rep. That’s something I’ve been trying to focus on lately too.

Also, just followed you on IG

Upper back rounding (to a point) is acceptable. It's the lower back that is dangerous.

Lower back injuries scare the crap out of me. I've been to snap city and it ain't fun. At this point in my lifting journey I care more about longevity rather than PRs. Nothing worse than taking time off because of injuries. Time off = losing gains.

30 push-ups this morning! I’m stoked that I knocked out 30 in one set because I’ve slacked off a little with everything going on in life. I did one set of 25 on Saturday, yesterday I used a hammer and chisel to remove old mortar in the bathroom, arms were super sore last night, I think I was somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 strikes with the hammer.

Today is a do my best and forget the rest kind of day.

I’m doing quad eccentrics daily for PT for my knee. Single leg, leg extensions and leg presses.

Then sprints today. Allergies are killing me this last week. I can lift no prob but cardio its hard to breathe.

Isn’t there supposed to be more squat in deadlift than his video? Like he never drops his ass. Seems like all back which can’t feel good lol

Relatable. Slept wrong so pinched nerve in neck and sprained wrist made this morning a drag of a workout but still tried what I could.

Depends. My ass is somewhat high at the start of my pull. I used to start really low, but when I started the pull my butt would fly up anyway, so I decided to start my pull from there. I don’t see much wrong with his pull. Like others have stated, upper back rounding at max effort is fairly normal and not nearly as bad as Lower back rounding. As long as that lower back stays straight, he should be fine.

    I run inside :p

I go low when I DL.

95% of me reaching the bar is me bending at the knees.
I hyper extend my lower back as much as possible.
But again 5’9” and never DL over 315 so my dynamics may be different. Or I’m doing it wrong lol

Squatting is a press, the deadlift is a hip-hinge exercise that requires tension on the hamstrings.

    Good article here. https://barbellrehab.com/stop-squatting-your-deadlifts/

I thought that for years and was constantly being defeated by trying to drop my butt into a squat position before deadlifting. The hard truth is that deadlifts are a LOT of back and require a strong one to do big weight-period. :D A flat back through the whole motion is preferred but as has been said, once you start maxing and trying to push it in competition, form starts to suffer at least a little usually. Rounded lower back and hitching are what make me just physically cringe watching/waiting for the injury to happen! lol
