What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I 80 is the infamous one.

I90 in MT is no joke either in the winter on the west side.

 

We still have no idea how it happened, it was protected by a skid, current theory is it was rusted enough to develop weakness enough to pretzel itself. Backing a truck down a trail in 2wd enough to turn around was interesting.

Yup, I want to go back and hike it with my wife now. And we think the one blade snapped at one of the many water crossings we did. We were able to fix the hole with jb weld and water weld. We had a lot of damage on this trip. @avw4x4 had a flat tire and twisted front drive shaft. I had my window switches stop working (we think water got in the window motor and shorted it, I found a burned pin and burnt plastic that I was able to clean off and get working again) and blew my PS pump, and @Rockbaron1 had the fan blade snap, which we didn't know damaged the radiator till he swapped the fan, and also busted a tail light/large chunk of bedside.

 

Mostly side highways, Laketown to Kemmerer, then to Mountain View through Carter, then to Manila, then to Vernal.

Humbling if you are the guy whose LBJ fell off an hour later.

 

Drove the 80 series Cruiser through on there and all over Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, etc and the trails through the passes. Definitely one of the prettiest part of the US I've seen. And I drove that million dollar highway in summer. And drove it slow. Beautiful area

 

I ran it on the way back from Rock Therapy in 2017 and it was awesome. I don't think I would feel it's awesome mid winter though... always jelly of you West coast guys,

Wow that is a bit of carnage. Freaking awesome though that you guys are competent enough to field repair your issues. It sucks fixing stuff on the trail or at camp, but it feels pretty damn good to know that you can and after you get it done(or hope you can lol)

 

I was just glad it was day 4 when the driveshaft came apart so I didn’t miss too much.

Will definitely be back to checkout the last section of trail and inevitably break moar things

 

Im thinking my truck may be due for an alignment. This is what driving straight looks like. If I pull the wheel back off and rotate it right a tooth, its way worse going the other way.
I seem to remember my old wheel being this way too, maybe its more noticeable with the new wheel is all.

 

Gotta get that front locker or you'll be winching a good section. Front locker got a work out on that climb. Though realistically you kicked ass on this trip on pizza cuttter 33's with two double locked guys on 35's.

 

Was wondering when 550 would come up in this discussion of dangerous roads haha. It's not that bad, just gotta watch out for people who don't know how to drive on mountain passes. And yes, it does get a little gnarly in the winter (when it's open).

 

Might not actually be out of alignment, just may need the wheel centered.

 

If I bring it back to the right one tooth, this is the result. Thats going straight.

 

I just mean your front wheel toe might be fine but they can move them in equal measure to center your wheel.

 

Truck is broken, need to dismantle and dispose of properly which I'll help with free of charge!

 

Ah yeah. Not a full alignment. Just messing with the tie rods. Gotcha. It will have to wait untill after my big trip next week.

 

This one and the 92 for $30k.

 

How bout we pay a bit more and you keep the 92 haha

That’s normal when you change the steering wheel, I changed the steering wheel in the 5-lug and it got all misaligned even though I could’ve sworn I put it on perfectly from my match marks.
