Where the heck is it ? Looking around the engine today and wondered where they hid it.

Take the skid plate off, it is a Cartridge Style Filter. Your location says South Park, lots of fun and good memories from there!

You have to remove the skid plate to change the filter? That seems stupid. Why would Toyota do that, plus it is a cartridge. Seems like they are going back old school.
You used to live around this area?

Why put it under the skid? Because the trucks get used and it protects it....

Cartridge filters might be old school, but it's less wasteful with materials. I'm ok with it.

I put a TRD Pro skid plate on my truck, primarily for DIY oil changes...it has an access panel to the oil filter. Plus, it looks good I think. Pricey, but if you watch there’s some deals to be had.

One of the advantages of cartridge filters is that you don't have to cut it open to examine the condition!

It's not bad. Oil change intervals are typically 10k miles. And it's much better than some other filter locations.

Thank god Toyota went back to the canister filter instead of the element.

My ‘11 pre runner and wife’s ‘19 Camry both have canister. Couldn’t ask for easier oil changes.

How many bolts is the skid plate? Can’t be too difficult. A slight inconvenience I agree! The camry also has a cover over the pan and oil filter.

Where do you guys buy your filters? I had a bad experience buying an air filter last year on Amazon... ordered three different filters, all counterfeit.

I went to the dealer and bought 5 filter sets and washers. I will be set for the next 50k miles and will know they are Toyota OEM parts. Price wasn't bad at all either.

Four 12mm bolts on the stock "skid". The front end of it drops down on little hooks when you take those bolts out, so all you're holding up is the back end when you take the other two out. EASY PEASY :)

Ya it's pretty easy with the TRD skid plate. Can I install a fumoto valve without removing the skid?
