i will see if some 3rd and 2nd gens 500 miles away are up to this task
maybe those guys know more of what to do than the Toyota dealer, bodyshop and customer service, which was absolutely NO HELP after I contacted them
its just 500 miles away :)

that naval jelly sure did a number on the original paint, stripped that thin stuff right off the frame, nice shiny steel under there now

It's less Tacoma and more mod
It's a brand new old vehicle, exactly what I would buy.

I doubt people coming to a mod day are gonna want to do a frame resto. Those events are typically a replace parts and drink beer type thing. Not a get nasty with paint chips type thing.

It can be. With enough paint stripper and power washing.

i was just outside hosing off the naval jelly and then wait for it to dry and then go and reapply a foot or two section at a time

I have learned from TW that re-undercoating my truck is NOT the best way to keep it tipTop
all the dealers so far have told me all they can do is undercoat it and I told them I have seen online pictures of what might possibly happen many years from now!

You know what? I think you might be taking the best approach to it. Just do a couple foot section all the way around where possible, little at a time. And doing it like that will take that huge task and break it down nice and easy.
I'm gonna be doing something soon to address the pepper spray surface rust I have. I'm thinking I'm just gonna use one of those ospho something products that just converts any rust into an ironite or something like that. A solid clean surface and then fluid film I guess or something like that

Douse it alllll at once with aircraft stripper, careful not to get on bushings/wires etc. Powerwash off after an hour. Wire brush/wire cup on grinder all the flakes off. Wash again. Prime, Paint, Fluid film after a week or two.

It would be wise to dress like your cooking meth.

Yeah most are everywhere. Unless it's a Toyota specialty shop. Or you get lucky and have a tech like Empty_Lord that happens to be a the dealership or shop you use. Your best bet unfortunately is to become a DIYer

This forum is the best resource and the good news is they given it to you straight up, for the most part. Have no shame in putting up pics even if you might be worried what you hear. We need the best for the taco, and anyone can tell you care about your taco so you'll be fine man.

Uhhhh not always, I learned a lot by trial and error and I'm DIYer but with the resources available here and internet or whatever yeah you got a great shot at doing it right. At least knowing the right thing to do you have, then you have to execute it
