Try tugging on the card reader next time you get gas. I've made it a habit, you'll usually find it if one exists.

How the hell do you scramble a pin number without entering it wrong? also pin pads are supposed to be auto encoding, they don't transmit the direct button push, rather a hash code that is decrypted using a cypher at the card processor (wherever that may be)

Something about how they can get your PIN from the heat transfer of your fingers pressing the numbers. If you enter a few numbers then delete them, followed by your correct ones, it makes it difficult for them to record your actual PIN number.
    Say my pin is 1234, I'll do 1 2 5 delete 3 6 delete 4 7 delete

Ah okay that makes more sense, they'd have to be close by and ready to thermal image it.

I read about that a few years ago, maybe more...for all I know they have better ways now of skimming your info. But supposedly Arco is gonna take credit soon, hopefully it doesn't jack up their prices though. Aside from Costco they're really the only inexpensive place to get gas around here. And fuck Costco lines lol. Not to mention the closest Costco is too far out of the way for me to be worth the hassle.

I know at gas pumps in California scammers open the pump with a key, they pull the ribbon harness off the back of the keypad, plug in their jumper cord with a electronic box in the middle of the cable - and it has the internet. All of the correct information goes to their laptop. It takes less than a minute to install and with the buddy system and a slow at the time gas station "it's on" as a scammer would say. I saw a news story on TV about it and I researched it a little.

I always check the silver foil seals on the doors and panels of the gas pump. If it's broken I let the attendant know and go elsewhere.

After having my card skimmed at a pump, I just use a credit card for all purchases now. Sucks to have to pay the large balance each month, but the purchase protections of a credit card are worth it.

Yeah, measures Full to Empty on the big gauge, and when you hit 1/4 on the big gauge the little gauge drops into view and gives you an accurate 1/4 to Empty amount. Then once both those are pegged theres also a gas light haha. There's no excuse to run out of fuel in a Z

My credit cards have been picked up/fraud a lot, especially when I was divorcing my first wife. Hahahaha! (legally separated, my account)
I didn't pay a dime of those fraudulent charges. Purchase Protection.

I think most, if not all gas stations in California will have the machine seals. They're just silver stickers taped on where the machine would open or access panels.

ya but YOU (and others that I shall not mention) do not get the thrills of 4wd plowing through a foot of blizzard snow and ice struttin' the Toyota brand on snowpacked city streets trying to avoid the super massive potholes.
and then finishing off the day with nuckle numbing hose downs at the spray n wash in sub-freezing temps

so you are correct it is all relative
