DFA9A3A0-4AFB-4A24-9DFD-04178544C421.jpg I know I started another thread titled ”hopefully someone has had this” about hearing a “chain” rattle type sound I got on video. Well after enough feedback I was convinced that is was the spare tire chain. So after some ideas I put a piece of pipe insulation and tire wire around it and took down the video.... well
The next morning I drove it and the sound it still there. One brother mentioned taking down his spare tire and flipping it upside down and allowing the chain to rest inside the rim. That might be my next option. Assuming that what is it. It’s not keys ( I drive keyless with keys in pocket) and it’s not loose change or tow hitch( nothing installed yet) so I’m puzzled. If needed I take another video in early am for audio

Sorry for the thread revival. I had the same issue and I've seen several of these threads out there, none had my answer.

Strapping the hanging tire chain down with zip ties removed most of the noise but there was still a lingering chain noise (only over certain small bumps). I found that I had a small amount of rust accumulating (only 27k miles on the truck) where the tire chain meets the underside of the bed. I sprayed a little bit of WD-40 up in there and problem fixed, absolutely no noise from the rear end now.

I thought I posted an update a year ago with pic but couldn’t find it. My chain noise ended up being front right. I can’t remember what it’s called but it was like a lock washer or something shaped like. “C” wear the ball joint was. It was not torqued down so it rattled.

How bout stretching a bungy cord between the chain and the frame or hitch? Would prob stay tighter and be easier to remove than zip ties when you need the spare tire down......

Ya I fixed the loose chain for spare first before I took it in and the found this after a lot of trial and error. Big headache. It was tricky to duplicate on the lift

Tried the bungy method a couple different routes and I was still getting a little subtle chain noise. The zip ties are tighter and no noise.

I keep wire cutters and a couple other common tools in a small tool kit under my rear seat so the zip ties take about .02 seconds to remove..........

My OR has so many creaks and other noises for the gear in it I am surprised there is even chain noise! You guys must have...

But really, I did put a lock on the chain to keep my spare where it is supposed to be when I need it, and that probably dampened any chain noise I had. Better than tie wraps- that thing is too easy to steal!

Is there a torque spec for that, or did you just tighten it down a bit? Been searching for my jingle for a year now.

They tightened it down at the dealership. Lift Up the front end one side at a time a with the tire off the ground hit the tire or rim with something like a rubber mallet to cause a vibration or shock the that side of it jingles 99% that bolt needs to be cranked down till the jingle bells go away
