Soo they want you to voluntarily plug something into your car to charge you more tax. How about no.

The pitch is that it would replace the gas tax. Proponents say it is a more fair system since people are charged per mile of actual use and not per gallon of gas, so an EV pays the same as a 8mpg truck. I have doubts they would actually fully cease the gas tax, of course.

That argument makes no sense “More fair” my ass, what’s goin on is there are a bunch slicksters seein money goin the “wrong” direction (ie:not in their pocket) so they come up with some bullshit scheme to tap into a new money well. Wasn’t the PA Turnpike supposed to be self sustaining in so many years?

    Nope, they're number 2.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/mone...sts-fill-up-your-car-across-country/38908491/

    1. Pennsylvania
    • State gas tax: 58.7 cents per gallon.
    • Gas price as of mid-Jan. 2019: $2.48 per gallon. (15th highest)
    • State taxes as pct. of gas price: 23.7 percent (the highest)
    • Annual miles traveled per driver: 11,266 (5th lowest)

    2. California
    • State gas tax: 55.5 cents per gallon.
    • Gas price as of mid-Jan. 2019: $3.29 per gallon. (the highest)
    • State taxes as pct. of gas price: 16.9 percent (9th highest)
    • Annual miles traveled per driver: 12,982 (15th lowest)

Depending on the source, we are either first or second with Cali on Diesel as well.

Except that doesn't take in the older vehicles without OBD-II readers. The man won't be satified unless he gets money from everybody.

This! If they implement that crap my ass is moving to MD. As much as I love PA I've been wanting to move closer to work (about a 50 minute drive into MD where I work) and this would tip me over the edge of doing it!

More fuel efficient doesn’t mean uses less money. As in a hybrid still wears on the road just like a non hybrids of the same model.
What because we have more fuel efficient cars we won’t have pot holes anymore? LOL

It seems to me they're trying to track something else. Isnt that what an odometer is for? I can see hybrids and such needing to pay more for road maintenance, but why bother the rest if you're wasting more gas idling and such. Theyre still getting paid whether we use the road or not (I'd rather see gas taxed just like on & offroad diesel for lawnmowers and such)

Call me crazy, but PA already gets that data when you register a vehicle, therefore they don't need an ODB-II device. Those can however tap into your vehicle's GPS and provide a pretty exact location. I would certainly hope that our 4th amendment right would protect us from that.

Maryland gun laws are a bit goofy to be honest. I'm not really into them so I'm good.

And just to be clear, I wasn't hating on PA at all. Love where I live, it's just there's no direct commute to work from here...
