So my brand new less than 10k km engine is leaking at the timing cover right at the alternator, the common spot, my engine builder is ducking my calls and emails, that's another issue I'll deal with in person :duel:. What I want to know as a temp solution has anyone ever successfully resealed this from the outside?

First make sure your cover bolts are tight. They might just need to be snugged up a little. Not to much though. I think they should only be about 13 ft lbs.

    This.

Outside of seating the gasket a bit better, there isn't really a proper 'external' fix.

I have this issue too. Just bad enough to drip a little in my driveway but not register on the dip stick. I might just let it be as its not really a leak that can hurt the engine at all.

I cleaned the affected area and took the truck for a burn, the leak is definitely from the alternator bracket area, the engine builder agrees and is going to warranty it, so yay.. it's a really faint leak, that isn't affecting the level overal but still glad that it's gonna be taken care of

Good news OP. A lot of early 4.0 V6s and even some new 3.5s have that same type of oil leak from the timing cover(power steering bracket). It's a lot of work to get the fixed.

Not sure how that's really good news. But the issue is being resolved. The engine builder has taken responsibility and is arranging for a local Toyota specialist to fix it
