You still not gotten them 650 pounders installed?

 

Finished the install yesterday. Took me a while to find a friend with access to a spring compressor who wasn't always "busy." However, definitely having some alignment issues due to what I believe are seized LCA bushings. See my new post here.

I looked at your post. You have stock Ucas so you can’t really do much. The number that I saw on your alignment are acceptable. They just need to center your steering wheel before they do the alignment what it sounds like. Finding a good alignment tech is hard to find unfortunately....

 

Did the 2x rear right 5160's and with extended break lines. Worked a treat. Very happy how these paired with the medium Dakar's.
Had the 6/5 notches. 2" lift front and rear as advertised. Kept 1" of rake. Very happy.

Hub to fender measurements:

Before
Front left: 20.25"
Front right: 20.5"

Rear left: 21"
Rear right: 21.5"

24 hours after
Front left: 22.25"
Front right: 22.25"

Rear left: 23.25"
Rear right: 23.5"

 

What tire size is everyone running? Gonna need new shoes before winter. Was thinking I’d just go up to 265/75/16 but now considering 255 skinnies.

 

Also I need some clarification on height numbers since I didn't measure anything before I started adding weight to the truck. To my knowledge stock height is 21" in the front and 22" in the rears. After three days of being installed on the truck at the 5/4 setting with 650# springs, my numbers are as follows:

Front right: 22"
Front left 21 3/4"

Rear right: 23 1/4"
Rear left: 22 1/2"

Before the lift but with the extra weight I was 19 3/4" in the front and 20 1/4 in the rear.

So I clearly have a lean even though my driver's side is one clip setting higher. I would assume that the suspension still has much settling to do too over the upcoming weeks. I was aiming to end up ~1.5" higher than stock. I think the rear is fine with the medium duty Dakars (especially because these current numbers are with my tent, rack, and hi-lift on the truck which are not always there), but I'm wondering if I should go up to the 6/5 setting in the front. I see the post a few above me by @Rockefelluh has slightly different before numbers than me, which would mean I am pretty close to my intended height. Can anyone verify stock height from hub center to fender on a 3rd gen 4x4 v6?

I think your lean is probably within expected. Can’t be perfect really. Even though I measured mine level I’m sure I’m off plus or minus 1/4”.

I think yours looks damn good as is! Not sure what others are measuring at stock weight and suspension.

 

Was your before measurement of 20.5” at stock weight?

Went by the deanship today and walked around the lot with a tape measure. Found a stock 2016 OR like mine and took some measurements. Left front was 20.5" and right front was 20 7/8". I'm thinking that mine was closer to 20.5" when stock (at least that's what I'm going to tell myself since there's no way of knowing), which means I netted ~ 1.25" above stock (but really more like 2.25" above where I was with all my added weight). I'm going to wait until it all settles to decide if I want to move up to the 6/5 notch. If I do, I might have to add the leaf to my medium Dakar to make it into the heavy duty pack. Now that I've spent so much time adding goodies, I'm ready to get out and make use of all of it and do some wheeling. @crashngiggles and @yorttam83 anyone want to get out sometime soon?

I also measured a new Pro, and was surprised to find that it only measured 21" exactly from hub center to the bottom of the fender. I had always believed that it was supposed to be 1" higher than any other trim so I was expecting it really to be closer to 22".

 

I am booked out until at least September. The NE meet is taking up a lot of my time.

A lot of us have installed two right rears, and just installed extended brake lines. If you do that everything else is in stock. Call Wheelers, they sold me mine that way.

 

August is tough for me.. Personal stuff going on but also taking a trip down to DC with my dad for about a week.. Glad you like it! If it's a Sunday and there are some other people in the group who want to go I'll see what my schedule looks like.. But realistically September may be a little easier.. I'm anxious to get out again. @mach1man001 @BadDNA @crashngiggles @littlefish Maybe a early September trip if all else fails..

Also curious if anyone paired the 6112s with the 650lb coils w/ 5/4 notches but stock front without additional weight? Don’t really want to swap the coils out once I save up for a front bumper.

 

Bilstein says the 650# coils will add .5” to the advertised lift height so I’d think 5/4 would net you 2” for now. It might ride a bit stiff until you add some weight. But if you’re adding the weight for sure then that’s what I’d do. Call wheelers they’ll hook you up with a TW discount.

 

I talked with a Bilstein rep over the weekend, and he said they are coming out with a version of 6112s with a heavier spring - presumable the 650# spring. The timeline is "soon".

Obviously, this does not help current owners, but for those thinking about buying these, something to keep in mind.

 

Anyone installed airbags with their rear 8100s??

Speaking to an installer I've learned bypass shocks don't as well with variable weight. The adjustable rebound and compression lets you dial them in perfectly, but once they're dialed in if you add 500lbs of weight they'll suddenly be way off. Logic made sense to me so now my problem is I run a daily constant 300lbs... but when I load up for adventure on the weekends I go up to 800lbs.

I really want the 8100s to match my front 8112s, was planning on getting Icon RXTs. Instead of tuning everything for a full load I was thinking I could leave the RXTs at level 1 and dial in my beilsteins to a constant 300lb load so the truck should drive like a dream on the daily.

Then when I load up for camping I can just inflate the airbags to compensate for the extra weight and hopefully not throw my rear suspension completely out of whack.

Is that a solid plan??
