Picking up 2019 Tacoma Off-Road ... Are Vibration Issues that bad ?

    Hey Guys,

Been a VERY long time Toyota nut and finally got to a point in life where I could afford to go out and get a bran new truck.

The Tacoma Off-Road was my first and only choice , never even questioned it ... so went down to the dealership and did the deed.

Truck is on its way but I have not done the final signed papers yet.

I started to read up about these 3rd gens and found the electric transmission issues and a few other things people gripe about like the seating position, third brake light leaking ect ... not a big deal to me.

The one thing that DOES have me just a little concerned is all the drive line vibration threads I have been reading and even a lawsuit that was filed against the 2016-2018 trucks for the axle / drum issue that is related to this issue.

I spoke with the salesmen at Toyota and he assured me (saved these convos) that this was an issue with earlier models only and not to worry. I understand the trucks under warranty ect but i'm just curious if this is AS big of an issue and it seems ... or its one of those things where everyone brings the bad part of the truck to the internet of course to try and resolve it. Based on all the threads and complaints I have read vs the amount of trucks they sell .... I cant imagine this being a "wide spread" issue.

In my head , i'm still very set on this truck .... its just hard to get a grasp on just how bad this issue was / is compared to how many trucks are sold. If there was certain years , or where they were manufactured that had more issues then others ... little things like that from people who have been down this road which could help me greatly narrow things down.

I have a 5/19 OR and don't have any of the issues you mentioned above except the shitty trans/engine programming. In fairness, it has gotten better, just under 2k now. But OVTune will be ordered asap. Best advice I've seen and that I can give is to not read through too many of those threads, otherwise you will worry about every little thing and wind up not enjoying the truck as much. Ask me how I know...o_O I think they are good to read through to be aware, just try not to dwell on them. Kind of a tough task when you spend that much on a vehicle...

Exactly what i was worried about / trying to avoid. The salesmen told me "Its like googling a pain in your side ... before you know it, your dying"

My brain ... just works in awful ways sometimes.

At the end of the day I got all the extra coverage ect on my truck and i'm looking forward to receiving it more then you could imagine.

Thanks for your reply ! I appreciate it.

Honestly, the tranny shift points are slightly goofy. Not really a huge issue like people on the internet complain about. If it doesn't "learn" the way you like, leave the ECT button on. Drives wonderfully like that.

Oh, and congrats on your new truck. Just remember, it's a truck, not a street racer :burnrubber:

Like you said, you haven't signed the papers yet. You just have a reservation. Go for a drive once it's in and see if you feel anything. Once you check it over, then sign the papers. I always do this on every vehicle purchase.

But I wouldn't worry about this. Percentage of people affected should be very very low.

I picked up my 19' OR in April, I waited on it to get to the dealership from the factory - so I can only assume it was built, roughly, in April. No vibration issues on my truck. I've got about 2,800 miles on it - the ECT button is activated often by me as I much prefer the shift points compared to when ECT is not activated. I came from driving manual transmissions for forever, so I'm not sure if any automatic transmission would make me perfectly happy with gear selection, but the ECT button gets very close. OV Tune will be considered closer to warranty expiration.

I'm normally not bothered by much, but the transmission issue would be more of a concern than the vibration. I haven't noticed it in my 18 OR 4x4. It is probably there and if someone pointed it out, I would probably drive myself crazy with it.

Not to dampen your new truck excitement but the 3rd gen has the same 2 piece driveshaft and springs that all the 2nd gen had - took Toyota years to play around and never fix them or issue a TSB until most were past the warranty. Just a fact. You may never experience any problems and I hope you do not, but if you do as this site shows you will have to pay to fix them with aftermarket items as a lot of us have done.

This thread has honestly already put my mind as ease with the responses.

I appreciate you guys chiming in on this.

Got a Quicksand CC/SB Off-Road on its way as we speak , then its getting PDI'ed , Paint protection and accessories I ordered put on and away we go !

Best early birthday present to myself I could have ever imagined. Going to keep my eyes focused on the good and accessories because as someone said in this thread (which is funny because this is actually my motto on life)

"You should not worry about the things you can't control" ... that hit me like a ton of bricks. I guess its just because its the second largest purchase ive ever made other then a property and my brain just went a little nuts there.

If it makes you feel any better. This is my first truck ever. My previous vehicles were a 2017 CR-V, a WRX, GTI and a Jetta so it's not like i'm used to the vibrations of a truck.

I picked up my 19 OR in April of this year and it's a very smooth ride. No weird vibrations or noises. Just make sure you give it a good test drive, get up to various speeds to see if anything stands out at you.

I've got the 25-15 mph deceleration vibration on my '19, as well as some rear differential howling at 55-60 mph. The decel vibration is very slight, and livable -- not worried about it. The rear diff howl is borderline for me... I may bring it up to the dealer when I go in for my 5k service.

Everything else is solid. Auto transmission works great, no other weird vibrations, leaks, or noises.

I have a 19 OR. No vibration issues. I’m super super sensitive to noises and feelings and the only thing I notice with the 3rd gens is a slight buzz feeling In the steering wheel and brake pedal at 2k rpm. This is due to harmonics of the exhaust and quite honestly if it bothers you than your really nit picking!
