    Kiel did not mention that a 3" retard will or won't cause valve interference. I highly doubt it will, if the intake cams with their variable mechanism won't.

    Long time since this post. But, I can say for various reasons, my airflow has been over 400g/s, I have dynoed three times now with a few different small mods. Making over 400ftlbs of torque each time, consistently over 400ftlbs 2500-4100 RPM. Honestly I'm not (all that) worried about going to 500ftlbs. As an engineer, I'd stamp that.

    I'm glad to know from earlier posts that it is possible to swap the cams without taking the timing chain cover off. I'm going to try my hand at that, since I didn't like the idea of introducing the possibility of creating oil leaks in the cover seal, when it's not leaking yet.

    Can anyone explain the mechanical workings of the intake's variable timing system? I assume it's some kind of oil-driven system...?

    Urd tcai. Dtlt headers maf call. Urd stage 3+ cluch lws, magnusson 2.55 pully, uconn ems
    50 degree range of intake retard/advance. Opens -8 to 40 BTDC
    closes 10 to 60 ABDC.
    LOW rpm/light load it will be on valve overlap for "efficiency" high rpm high load switches to advance (no overlap) Oil pressure operated.

    I've been looking for more info as well but thats all ive got.

    Most of us have probably seen this valve timing diagram attached, but here it is. Combined with the chart that @JustDSM posted, it gives you an idea where and how much valve overlap there is.
