Soft topper!!?? Best brands?!

I drive ~80mi a day on teh highway at 70+mph...everyone I know who has one says it flaps at highway speeds.

I do plan to at least put some clear or silver vinyl on the top part of the tailgate. I know over time the paint will become pretty scratched up.

 

It’s not that bad. Stitch in and out up and back down. Tie it and done

 

The magnets hold that thing tight with zero scratches no matter what speed you go. Just sayin

 

I'm purchasing the Soft Topper soon here. I am wondering if the mesh rear panel is worth the money. I would mainly only be using the topper for trips and carrying cargo, it wouldn't be on 24/7. I probably don't really need the rear mesh panel but I'm kind of wanting it, just to keep better air flow through my truck and bed. I am a 24/7 moon roof open rear window open kind of driver.

Also, I see under accessories there is a front mesh panel. If I did go mesh panel I would want to go with both yes?

 

I think I'm gonna cut a slit in the fabric and slide in a piece of 1" wide aluminum flat bar like @90yota did, then glue these magnets to the strip as well for added stability...or maybe I'll be lazy and not do either lol

 

I don't see the point of the mesh.

If you think it's going to be cooler, think about sleeping in a tent. The tent was really only cooler if the door was open.

Want it cooler. Roll up the sides.

 

Why not use pallet strapping? The iron will allow the magnets to stick to it and not need any glue. Slide the whole thing in one side. Seal the one slit and be done.

 

The Velcro isn't bad. I've been fine with mine for about a year and a half now

 

You can't even see much of the Velcro when the top is on.

 

Seems you can only buy it in bulk.

 

Could do just fine but will be thicker. Those magnets are surprisingly strong. I’ll try to take a video or multiple sequenced pics

I also have a hard tri-folding tonneau cover that I use day to day. Can the rails for the Softopper be removed easily when not in use? I see there is an adhesive.

 

No adhesive on the rails, just foam to seal. Two clamps on each rail, quick to take off.
More than an hour to install. Colored dots were hard to initially see, only downside I could see. Driver side rail only one marked. I changed out the windows for screens I ordered too, a little bit of a PITA to place front screen properly on the velcro.

The rails take only a couple minutes to get on and off on each side once you do it a couple times. First setup is the longest since you have to put everything together for the topper, but after that you can remove and put back on in no time. And as hikerduane said, it's not an adhesive, just foam seals. They do have a sticky side that you can peel back if you want to, but even softtopper recommends leaving the paper backing of the adhesive on. I'll snap some pictures on my lunch break of what it looks like since I don't have the top on right now.

 

Here are two pictures of how it attaches to the bed rail system. Super simple and easy to take on and off, all you need is a wrench or socket set.

 

Thanks for this! One more question, are there specific locations the the brackets need to be along the rail? I ask because I have brackets for my current cover.

 

It's like a foot or so from the front of the bed. They tell you where to put them in the instructions
