Ironic. I seen this pop up and couldn't believe it. Just yesterday I had to pull the rear plate to do some bumper work on plastic trim pieces that are on the step area of the bumper.

You created one hell of a mess for yourself once you need to change the plate.

Rescinded in 2014. The money they lost from that was piled onto snowmobilers and there registration. They were snapped with a extra $20 per year for ORV licensing or some shit. They have been playing the licensing game in this state for many years now, and they are still at it.

I just went to HD and bought lag bolts that fit in the new, larger holes.

Seen a Wal Mart JB Weld job before. Glued right to the tube bumper. Made my day.

I made a video about how to "best" repair the loose license plate from stripped screw holes on your Tacoma:

    https://youtu.be/9Rs3HU2JQVs

    The repair costs about $1.

Shit, I'm doing the zip-tie fix tonight...! My plate holes are stripped out pretty bad.

At some point I'm going to get an HC rear bumper so I don't need anything too permanent.

Tre screws are already quite big with no guarantee of not stripping. The Ziptie fix builds threads and may hold for a long time. You can always use 2 really small ones in opposition. I like the bolts - cheap & solves multiple problems.

The problem is alive and well though. Old threads don't stop being relavent. Nutserts ftw.

I guess I’m here to redirect the dead. my plate screws stripped out as well. The other night I was backing out of a friends driveway and my reverse lights weren’t cutting it. I was looking into replacement bulbs and found a mini LED reverse bar that mounts to the plate and taps into the reverse lights. But, it’s not an option without through-bolting the plate since it’s barely hanging on. I’m considering getting the mini light bar and definitely going to through-bolt regardless. Thanks to all of you throughout the years for taking the guess work out of my fix.

If you have somewhat of thread grip with what you have left,,you can use Original Shoe Goo repair on those bolts. Clean the surfaces and spread a healthy bead on the bolts, plate and bumper, top and bottom. Get crazy with the cheez wizz. Tape it up or lay a spare on it. Don't even look at it for 24 hrs. extra cold??=extra wait time. Heat lamp speeds things along. It will peel off if needed.
