help deciding on subwoofers

Hi all,

I figured this question would be somewhat pertinent, as it relates to the cab size of our vehicles. I have an extended cab 1st gen, and the next mod on my list for the vehicle is going to be sub woofers. I have a pioneer head unit to hook into which will be nice, and will be running 4 gauge wiring, and the appropriate amp to power the unit. Below are the three choices that I am contemplating, and was wondering if anyone had any input between the 3 with sounds quality, good depth to different styles of music, and lastly a good amount of "thump" to fill the cab.

The last system I had was in my prior truck (1997 ram single cab) was a pair of kicker comp 10's in a single cab style sealed box. I'm hoping to get a better range of frequencies ( improvement on the low's) with this new system, and some more beef to back the thump from what I previously had; for reference. The system lasted me for the 8 yrs I had the in prior vehicle, so of course I'm hoping to have reliability to back the sound.

Get Fosgate T1’s I have one twelve in a ported box in my x/cab it’s sweet, plus it won’t break the bank. They last too! IMO those brands won’t last, the only decent one is mtx and that was years ago when they were big.

 

I mean the T1's are 4x as much as the one's I've listed for just the subwoofer alone. I've heard and read good about rockville woofers, as well as the MTx setup. Thanks anyways for the help

 

I just put a single 10” rockford fosgate punch 2 in a sealed box from about 2006 with an 800rms watt amp in my double cab.

It works great. I dont think you’ll need 2 10s.

Makes me feel like a kid again. Except I am finding out its really hard for me to find rap from these newer guys that I really like. Old Man Saxon is the best for me so far but I use Prime and there are only 4 songs.

 

What sort of price are you looking to stay in?

Also do you care about size of the woofer because the higher up you go in size the sloppier the bass gets?

 

okay so filling the cab space isn't that difficult at all it seems. Thanks! Yes mainstream rap truly is not what it used to be. I like east coast rap and most of what isn't on the radio so i stick to spotify lol

 

Looking to stay around 200 price-wise. The single 12 rockville sub would be nice to save space with, but worst case scenario I would just put a pair of subs upright (vertically) at the corner in the back of the cab. I'm likely to stay with 10's or 12's as I don't listen to rap only and a 15 would be trash imo to keep up with other styles of music

 

Just to give you an idea of what I run, I have an 8 inch Memphis M6 Mojo and this thing destroys for an 8 at 900 watts RMS 2 ohm DVC wired in parallel (1 ohm nominal output). It rattles my rearview a ton, the side views are notably affected and the thing gets super low. Bass is tight and it is so much for me on Rap songs I actually have to turn it down. The excursion is insane on this thing! I'm in the middle of the break in process, but I can note that this little bunker buster will easily hold it's weight against many 10s any day I paid under $200 for it and it has a mounting depth of 5.75" so it would fit just about anywhere comfortably. Here is a comparison of it against a Rockford Fosgate P1 SVC 8". I call it suitably "the ex wife."

 

damn that's a good looking pickup right there! I'll have to keep that brand in mind on my search! Glad to know that smaller sized subs can fill our cabs well! I'm not looking to flex doors, but I do miss the rear view mirror rattle. That's great to hear your setup can achieve that! Thanks for the help!

 

I usually just get subs/amps at the pawn shop when I need one. Super cheap and usually close to new. Unless your into audio competition I don't see the point in getting crazy with the audio in a pickup.

 

Have you had any bad luck before with the subs being beaten to shit? And do most pawn shops offer any sort of warranty for them? If so i'll definitely pop in some shops around here in Az

 

Never but it's possible given it's a pawn shop. You can always try before you buy to make sure it's working properly.
