Hello, new guy here. I bought a 2019 4 door white TRD Off Road 4x4 in late December 2018. I have less than 7k on it when I was rear ended at about 40mph.

The bodyshop has my truck and they say to repair it they have to replace the entire frame.

Am I better off long term having the frame replaced and getting a loss of value check or fighting to have it totaled.

    Thanks.

The labour alone to replace the frame and have it done right and back 100% would be more then half the trucks value, not to mention if they mess something up, alignments of panels, parts.

I'd be pushing for a right off but that's me

I damned sure wouldn’t let anyone but the dealer do a frame switch (they all have plenty of experience doing it by now). Personally, I’d push for the total loss and get a new truck.

I'd be hesitant to have a dealer do it as well. Granted if they are getting paid for it they might do a good job?

I wouldn't trust the idiots at the dealership with that type of job. Hell, they can't even handle an oil change without scratching or denting my truck.

Thousands upon thousands of 1st and 2nd Gen owners have had their frames replaced. They say it's as good as new.

    Thank you all.

I wonder how this would affect the warranty of my truck?

They may total it. Toyota frames are built to order I believe and take 60 to 90 days to get.

Total loss is rare with new vehicles, it used to be 50% value but now they will all the way up to 80-90%.

Your rental bill will be massive waiting for that frame though.

While a frame some sounds like a big deal it is just a metal chunk the rest of the truck is bolted to. Bed has like six bolts front half of body another six. Sure suspension etc have a bunch of connections. But honestly it is not that big a deal. It can be time consuming but not rocket science. Hell you whole Ecuador’s and wiring harness pretty much stays with the body. Clips hold the rat if the harness to the chassis. Yes I would total if I could, but it is not the end of the world even if you are pissed right now. Just done accept truck back until you know it drives right

They are not going to total it even with the wait for the frame.
You will be fine. You would much rather have someone swapping a bolt on part even if it’s the magnitude of a frame job, than welding new panels on your vehicle. Much less intrusive.
