    Here are some helpful hints for future trips to make your visit to a national park, monument , or scenic area safer, friendlier, and not end in a court appearance. I know this cause I was a NPS LEO. Yosemite, petrified forest, Acaida, mammoth caves.

    1) Every park is different, we have different rules, call ahead before you come to a park, most don't allow driving in the back country with our a special permit.

    2) National forest and national parks are very different. they aren't even in the same agencies. they have way different rules and regs.

    3)Always check in with the L.E staff. L.E. or Law enforcment staff are going to be the ones that come and find you when you get lost or fuck up. so to stop your self from getting heavy fine or jail time for being in a place you shouldn't. check in with them.

    4)Be prepared. its one thing to get lost its another to die from piss pore planning.

    5)leave no trace. take only pics leave only foot print or in our case tire tracks. don't carve your name, in rocks, trees or other stuff. it is a costly thing and yes we will track you down. also its kinda a shit head move.

    6)pick up not only your shit but other ppls. there is nothing wrong with cleaning up our parks and recreation areas.

    these have been some helpful hints to the average adventure.

    Checking in isn't the same as asking permission. Like OP said, these are the guys who'll come looking for your dumb ass if you're reported overdue somewhere else. At least they know you're somewhere within the bounds of their jurisdiction and have a place to start looking for you.

    Remember the guy who had to cut his own arm off to survive, nobody knew where he was.

    Never needed anyone to come look for my "dumb ass" yet. I know my skill set and capabilities and always carry what I need to get me through an unexpected night in the woods if need be.
