Wish Me Luck

My two buddies and I eventually got everything bolted up and torqued down on the front. My lift is on!

However, my little 4-cylinder had wayyy too much lift even with only 7/8" of thread showing above the collar on my coilovers. So I cranked the driver side down so that it's about 36 and 3/4" tall floor to fender, which should be approx 2" of lift or a little less. By this point my buddies had taken their jacks home. Key question: Is there a problem adjusting the preload while they're still loaded and not up on jack stands?

I need to zip to sears at 8am (when they open) to get a jack and jack stands to jack it up to get the passenger side, my UCA is in the way. Then, I'm going to shoot some grease into the UCA zerks (they already have some), take the truck down, swing it by Dobb's so they can finish my brake line job (we can't get the second rear line off, so we put it back on and bled the brakes), swing by autozone to get some more screws for the swaybar relocates (only had two), and try to get a firestone alignment so I can drive home to Huntsville.

there is no problem adjusting while not on jack stands, it is just way harder to it that way. The only thing is don't put to much stress on that spanner wrench.

 

Is it the spanner wrench that'll get messed up or my coilover? I'm all done now, I just noticed on the driver's side that there was a little bit of fluid leakage from the LCA, but I couldn't tell where it was coming from above that.

However, it did stop; could have been some dripping wd-40 from when my buddies hosed it down or something. Suspension rode great and brakes worked and so did fuel, and the flow stopped, so I think I'll just watch it carefully to see if any more pools up.

So far, suspension is awesome.

Note to anyone with leeper coilovers, though: if you have the 4-banger, they are WAY too high stock. Like, the v6 guys might get 3.5" out of it, but on a 4cyl it has to be way higher, because i had at least 3" of lift with 7/8" of the collar showing (2" originally).

Just a word of caution, crank them pretty low with the 4 cyl.

 

I've heard or spanner wrenches breaking. And on my coil overs the collar is kind of messed up from the previous owner. But I have SAWs so I dont know if there is a quality difference or not. I just wouldn't push it.

 

Ah, my spanner held just fine. The most force I gave it was tapping with a hammer, can't get much torque with a short spanner under the wheel well. Most of the time I could turn it by hand though. Glad I got the wrench though! I know some people have done it with a screw driver, but that would really suck.

 

I use a monkey wrench for leverage.
