Can anyone make a Recomendation?

Hi Guys!

My last truck got a bunch of door dings from other drivers in parking lots and I really want to aviod this on my new truck. My primary goal is to find something that is tucked up realativly high because I wont be using it as a step but rather to protect my dam truck when someone parks close to me! I need just enough that if someone opens a door into my truck it wont ding the body.

This is a silly problem but people are so incosiderate where I live.

I'm not doing anything crazy offroad so i dont need sliders. I'v been looking at some tube steps but they look like the hang down a few inches.

 

Also wanting to stay Under $350 if possible

 

Find the cheapest sliders, local if you can so you don't have to pay shipping. Or have a local metal shop weld you a simple design that doesn't need to bear weight, take hits, or be made of the thickest DOM steel. Should cut cost more considerably than even any NFAB garbage or whatever other options there are.

I just park away from everybody and walk. My wife makes me drop her off at the door first so she don't have to walk that far. Four years old and not a single ding. YET !

 

Thanks guys. I wish they just sold a simple bolt on bar that was powder coated black. Thats literlly all I need. Ill hunt around online but may ask a local metal shop too

Running boards mounted high will work for cars that are lower than your truck. But if an F250 or a Suburban full of kids comes along, you're still hosed.

Best is to just park further away. And even if you do get a ding, don't sweat it. It's a truck. It's supposed to be banged up.

 

I simply park away from most others... 1 it stops almost all door dings. 2 I am anal about theft, and so in weathers I can some how change my clothes as soon as I enter a mall or store I will get my wife to say take my jacket and go back out for a look. Being I am parked farther away it's easy to see if some opunk has had his eye on me going in. So far I have made 2 little punks very sorry about trying to get into my stuff. LOL the last said he was going to call the cops on me, and no sooner did he present his letal cell phone I pounced on him and threw that phone on the ground hard. I had no idea there were so many little colorful pieces inside one of those Go Figure .

I like the slider Idea . If I were to go that way I would have it made of square stock diamond plate steel with added lumps and bumps for effect . Then paint it in a 2 step epoxy paint which is hard as nails.

 

Thats true. I think I may just grab some tubular steps and call it a day. I actually looked at the Toyota oem 5'' tubes because they are tucked up nice a tight but that are $400! Not a chance im spending that for nerf bars

 

I try to avoid places with parking lots, seriously if I can get it elsewhere I do. I also really evaluate if a door ding is worth the item I desire. I buy less useless junk this way.

 

Toyota makes some that are aluminum. High steps, pictured below. They sit higher than typical running boards. Ones from a 2nd Gen Tacoma will work as well (as long as they are the same cab/bed configuration as yours), but they were plastic. Pretty sturdy plastic, so I'm sure they will work just fine as well.

Find them on Craigslist. I see them come up occasionally for $100 or so.

 

Only if they come in station wagon wood imitation vinyl would I bite on them.

Only a matter of time until someone does a DIY woodside panels on our trucks...

Also I have sliders and I can see marks on it from doors hitting against it. It has kept my sides relatively ding free but it still gets hit from higher vehicles or cars with the wheel well cut out on the rear doors.

 

One of the very few benefits of having a handicap placard. Nice wide spaces. That said, I'd happily park far away and walk if it wasn't such a strain on my poor joints.

 

Quick web search says you can get wood grain vinyl wrap in multiple colors/grain patterns

Get something like luv-taps. Won't add extra weight and you can just take them on/off when you park.
