I'm looking for a definitive answer after purchasing a CTEK D250SA DCDC Charger for my dual battery setup on my 2013 DCLB. Do I have a "Smart Alternator"? CTEK doesn't seem to think they were in anything pre-2015, but I wanted to be certain and actually, I trust this place as a better source than anything I have locally. Where/how can I find a definitive answer?

You should have a fixed voltage 130amp alternator.

Not sure. My 2013 voltage starts off at 14.0v the first few minutes of a drive, then settles down to 13.4v.

I am thinking about installing the same CTEK charger in a camper I pull with my 2013 Tacoma double cab 4wd with tow package. Did you get an answer on whether the alternator is smart?

I talked with CTEK support this morning and he said he couldn't be sure. My local dealer didn't know either.

There is no current sensor in use on either battery cable that I've seen, no battery temperature sensor, and the voltage regulator is internal to the alternator (not in the PCM), so based on that criteria; No, our Tacomas do not utilize "Smart" alternators.

Yeah I found that there wasn't but it took a lot of digging. This charger works great BTW. I'm using it in conjunction with my 100w renogy solar panel and it's done great for quite a while now.

Thanks. The CTEK arrived today and I should be able to install it tomorrow. I've got a Zamp 120w briefcase style portable setup that will be a part of the setup. Looking forward to the improved battery performance and efficiency.
