Just need to pay attention as some are just web based laptops. Not much mod a hard drive as they are designed to surf the web.

Unfortunately, computers are built to last a few years and then throw away.

Shrug. It's this one. As long as I can download photos from my phone/camera & log onto the internet to pay my bills I'll be happy; that's really about all I'll be using it for.

I haven't used a computer at home for years. I do everything with a power tablet now although you'll pay a lot more for a power tablet than you did for that laptop.

For personal computers now I will only use chromebooks. They are cheap, no crap software in them. I don't have a need for anything crazy for a personal computer and I prefer the web/app based programs than having to install programs and stuff.

Yeah, I've been paying the bills on my phone for the last couple of months, but it's cumbersome.

I thought about going with a chromebook-sort of unit, but I do occasionally watch dvd's on my laptops, and all of my older photos are on CD's so I wanted to have a disc drive.

What did you go with for speakers? I put polk marine grade components in my tacoma (they had a great sale) so any door water doesn't hurt them. They sound amazing and I always thought "If I had a boat..."

Odds are your hard drive could be failing...
I know it's late but make sure you have an SSD for the hard drive. It changes your world...laptop went from 5 minutes to reboot to 30 seconds when I upgraded it...

Not sure if this one is solid state or not. At the price point, it's probably not but like I said, I'm really not working it too hard.

Who has been to the Grand Canyon and has some tips about traveling around there. Also want to see Antelope Canyon as well, I know they are a few hours from each other.

Hard to find places to stay, don't need a ton to do since we would only be there for a few days and going to the sights for most of it.

Any good towns to hit up? Should we just rent an RV and have it waiting at the airport? Any advice is appreciated.

The main advantage to solid state imo is that it lasts like 300+ years, and a regular HD can start shitting the bed around year 8-10. The solution I went with was to buy a 1tb SSD memory card, and only store important photos/documents on it and add too it once or twice a year is the place. Then throw it in a safe when its full and get another one. Can still get cheaper computers since you won't hold a laptop more than 10 years usually anyways.

Well the system shown was not for audio just a better battery management system as i have 3 battery banks and two motors to run so the management from the 90s was not up to my standards. I’m running a sony head fusion 4x100 amp and 2 8”3 way infinity kappas and 2 6.5” infinity kapa speakers. Overall I’m happy i can hear the music while the 350s are working hard and it doesn’t stress my house battery too much

Aha. Yes, I have one of those as well. My older photos are all on CD's buried in a box somewhere in the cellar (I should probably see about finding them and swapping them over at some point), but everything from probably the last 5-6 years is on an external drive. Not sure what size it is, but I've got probably 1500 photos & videos on it, and I'm only using like 2%

When we were out there last spring I was actually kind of unimpressed with the GC. I mean, it's impressive to see, for sure, but it was also a mob scene. Lots of people. I found Zion much more enjoyable, even though it's smaller. You can get closer to the scenery and there was a lot less people. I hear that the North Rim is typically much less crowded, but when we were there it was closed (March)

@Cuffs is out in that area, and she's something of a Nat Park expert anyway, so she can probably offer some solid advice.

We will be going in early-mid november, I don't expect many crowds...at least hopefully. I also think some of the park may be closed at that point? It's looking like staying in Flaggstaff and driving between the two or three places within a few hours of there is the winner. This will be a 5 day trip with 2 days being travel, doing it with the in-laws.

After this gen of dogs, we will most likely rent an RV and drive that area and check all the parks and really explore that whole area of the country for about a month or so. Right now its too big a hassel.

Depends on when they get the first snow, I think. When we were there they down to just a few inches of snow on the roadway, and I would have been willing to tackle it (we rented an AWD Rav and had already tested it out so I was pretty confident in its abilities) but we ran into a gate shortly after we left the plowed road and had to turn around.

I stayed at the Grand Canyon for 2 nights in June a few years ago. One amazing thing was seeing the canyon at 3 in the morning on a cloudless night. The stars are unbelievable over the canyon...
We hiked the Bright Angel trail to the 1.5 mile house and back...that took quite a while.
    Also got up for sunrise...

and watch out for the Squirrels! They know to bite canteens to get water...I have proof! This could actually kill you if you were 10 miles into a hike and lost your water...

How is getting in some of those tighter areas, or do you not have to for what you do?

    Neato.

Jets & turbines are cool, but I've always been a sucker for a radial :anonymous:

Although I hear that GE just 3D printed one? That's weird.

80% is kit parts. They all bolt on or have clamps. The welded stuff is done in field. We weld everything else in shop.

Everything from 3" exhaust manifolds to . 250x.028"wall injectors.

Radials are cool, but our big engine just broke the record for thrust.
