Yes, pricey. I have 5 AEM gauges...for now. I've got well over 1500 invested in gauges.

Yeow. Well I shouldn't talk, it was about that much for my car....... Truck though, only about $1000 for all six gauges.

Edit: Canadian dollars, so that's like $700 US

Yes, I'm also counting my stage 3 meth gauge. Highly recommend @Athlaos

Definitely check the oil level in the blower. Many come from the factory surprisingly low. Mine was pretty low on fluid out of the box.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Adding 2 cent here in an effort to share some of my learning experience....

    1. If your S/C is used then no better time then now to do a complete overhaul for maintenance while it is off the vehicle. Most of this stuff is on Page 1. However, a short list follows of what I did to mine.
    - S/C Oil Change
    - Rotor Needle Bearings
    - Replace Coupler (Poly Version, no spring)
    - Resealed Intercooler (mine didn't have one on it)
    - Overhauled bypass valve (mine was bent, JFR helped me get it straight and adjusted, also removed restrictor jet)

    2. Yes, replace the oil filler cap while you have the room.

    3. Oil catch is easy to install at this time as well.

    4. Replace injectors with FIC, matched flow injectors. I am pretty sure somebody has a set lying around.

    5. Roush Tensioner over Magnuson stock tensioner (I wouldn't sweat all the wrap mods yet until you start shrinking your S/C pulley) The roush tensioner is not only stronger, better built and more reliable but should add all the tension and strength needed on 3.0 pulley.

    6. The exhaust will be easy to access, but so will the SAI which all can be done later.

    7. As far as TRD tune, I jumped through hoops on this. Experiences may vary but if you throw all the stuff on in your garage, you can just safety wire open the bypass valve to avoid boost and drive your truck to a dealer and have them flash the TRD tune. It can easily be done, but some dealers gave me a hard time. I found two willing to do it without issue, one wanted $250 and the other did it for $100. Only about one hour total labor with smoke breaks.

The TRD base tune will allow you initial enjoyment out of the box without any fear or danger of tearing anything up. The HPTuner will present you with a litany of options for later. I would recommend you get all the hardware on, find a dealer to flash the TRD tune in the interim and then get it to them after you get everything installed. Once that is all together and the boner subsides, HP Tuner will provide multiple driveability upgrades and help tune other goodies you apply (exhaust, headers, cam gears/or cams, intake (once we get the speed density tables sorted), SAI deletion (for racing offroad or Mexico only), delete several enrichment component protection options if desired, and the list goes on and on.

There are many good options. FWIW, I followed @loginfailed's lead and went with Speedhut gauges because I could customize them to look somewhat like OEM, including Toyota/TRD logos. This is my AFR and this is my Boost.
Agree that this is a factor worth considering. I can't find it on Speedhut's site, but my AFR gauge came with instructions identifying a pink wire that provides analog output for datalogging purposes.

thanks thats almost exactly what I was looking at but I had a higher boost gauge in my cart. their standalone AFR does say it has an analog out for data logging so I would assume that is what we need for HP tuner. The more I read up that sounds like the best option. Even Magnuson has it in their Faqs now. not quite tacoma but its mentioned with updates etc.

Good to know! I'll have to dig up the wiring diagram from the install and see what mine has.

What speedhut AFR gauge do you have?

I bought part # GR-AFWB-09 which doesn't have any analog output:

I can confirm a pink wire's presense on my wiring harness. (I capped and taped it, until/unless I upgrade my HPT to Pro for datalogging.) Pretty sure I saved the instructions. Assuming I did, I'll scan them in tonight.

I will need to recheck mine, but don't remember a pink wire. This may be a recent upgrade to their harnesses as well. Mine is fairly dated, older than four years.

    Great list.

    1. It will be new so nothing hopefully except adjusting valve
    2. Already have the filler cap so golden there.
    3. I have one but may upgrade to a nicer one.
    4. Is this different than what comes with the base kit?
    5. Def planned on that. I am tempted to go smaller right away but prob good to see how it is on stock pulley.
    6. yah prob not off the back but seems easy to open it up some. TBD on headers, y pipe due to CA
    7. Yah I heard you can also get a 2 day sub to tech stream if you have a cable to do it. Brother has a shop so he may have a cable too. Need to check. but if its $100 not too bad, I expect around here (SF Bay area) it will be way higher.

Def want to at least get the TRD tune right away so if I can do it while were install it that would be ideal. If not the bully will have to do but trying to avoid it. Surprised they even include it anymore and not some rights to the TRD tune since most people get rid of it.
