Just dropped the taco off at the new drive shaft shop. Gonna be a minute before they can look at it though. Threw around the idea of building a one piece for the rear

Questions for the group: anybody know the max length of travel you can support with stock shock locations? Would a shock with 14" of travel be worth buying and installing without a shock mount relocation?

 

Short answer, you're not fitting 14" shocks in a stock location. Like, no way in hell lol

@Rogelio22 if you want generic length shocks (ones not prebuilt for your Tacoma, like 14" shocks) it takes a shit ton of work. You have to cycle your suspension to figure out what clears, and mount the shocks in accordance to how much up/down travel you want.

I plan on doing 14" shocks in the rear soon. I'll take the old shocks off, support the truck, let the leafs droop as far down as they will go until something binds (drive shaft, leafs bottom out, shit maybe even a brake line but thats an easy fit). A 1/4" or so above that will be your max down travel. You can either strap it there or have that full droop of the shock. Then you find the ride height and up travel numbers by cycling the suspension both one side at a time and as a unit. This decides where you mount your shocks.

And this is an oversimplification

Gotcha, might give this a try when movers bring everything up here to the new house.
