Op is must have lemon or something. I've ridden in 2 different 3rd gens so far. They feel like quiet, luxury vehicles compared to my '03.

    It's complicated.
Having just come from a 1992 Toyota XtraCab, my new Tacoma IS luxurious.

That said, I do hear road noise coming from the behind the rear seats. I'll be adding soundproofing soon (there's a thread on that subject on TW.)

As far as trucks go it is on the noisy side of the latest generation of trucks. The only one I can think of that is more noisy than the tacoma is the Frontier.

As far as vehicles in general go I would put it squarely in the middle, Japanese cars tend to be more noisy than others though in my experience.

I think it is more noisy than it should be considering the price bracket it is in. I think they could do a better job in that area for sure...as well as actually buy some decent paint!!!!

For the price I think we need to think about where the money should be going. Is the money put into quality and dependable drivetrain, suspension, payload, towing and other truck related things or is it going into stuff that is less important or unneeded.

Don't need to go to a 1/4 million dollar car my friend! Just go into the majority of German cars from the mid 90's and up. Or a base model Audi, BMW, Mercedes of today. Go to your local Audi dealer, and get into the drivers seat of the longest car you can find. Make sure the windows are closed when you close the door.

So your point is that an Audi, BMW and Mercedes are quieter than a mid sized pickup truck?

I would likely fall in love with the car and end up adding it to the stable. I'm in a "thin the herd" mode. I guess it is all relative, so we have learned that a Tacoma is more noisy than a luxury car. It is still the quietest of the 6 vehicles I own. :D

    1. WITAF? Didn’t I see this thread 3 years ago end with 6 permabans, 2 week-long vacations, and 12 murders?
    2. My 2016 is quieter than my wife’s 2013 Prius.
    3. How is thread still unlocked?

Kudos to Toyota, I'm really enjoying the quiet cabin. This of course after driving a 1997 Tacoma. Plus the brakes, which sucked (one piston fronts) are now two-piston in the 2016.

This is true, I guess at some point we will see if the money is going towards any of those things with the current generation Tacoma. I was referencing noise.

Dependable drivetrain is still kinda unproven I haven't seen any mileage yet that surpasses what is possible for other modern trucks. This will take time I realize.

Suspension is adequate most of the time unless you are maxing payload etc especially off road. Suspension has been a need to improve part across multi generations of Tacomas so no extra money spent there.

Payload is adequate for the truck size etc, nothing earth shattering.

Towing is also adequate, nothing earth shattering.

Looking at that, I think at the price point, it would not be unreasonable to expect a little more refinement as it pertains to noise.

I think more than one person would even spend the extra couple of hundred bucks on the MSRP to see something like (New Tacoma Road Noise Mitigation System) or something to that effect.

Other vehicles suffer the same issue though, Subaru's are one example.

Youre more noticing a leap in general technology rather than just Toyota's. 1997 until now, cars are vastly better.
