I’ve had great experiences with the adaptive cruise control. I used it extensively last year on a trip from Dallas to Orange Beach and back and it made the whole trip that much more bearable.

I gotta admit....I'm really diggin' the cruise control. Wasn't sure I'd like it, but I have a mindless drive to and from work on the highway and since I'm usually not in a rush, I can just set it and forget it. Works fantastic, it's like having auto throttles in a :plane:

This is a weird thread. So it was started before the feature was even out? Does everyone realize that it’s entirely up to the driver whether or not to engage the system?

I remember when the anti lock brakes came out , everyone hated them . Then one day they made it law you had to wear your seat belt and wow they really went nuts on the drinking and driving thing .

I think people were use to being able to apply the desired amount of pressure to stop as needed. I didn't drive at the time, but I can recall being in vehicles equipped with ABS not feeling like the brakes would stop the vehicle. Intermittent brakes would have been a better term.

It was two year old thread, from back when this technology was new, the angry trucker dug it up to vent.

exactly. if you don't like ACC: long press -> standard CC. if you don't like that: no press -> no CC. if you don't like that: buggy whip, by cracky.

I’ve not had one issue and prefer this system to the lane assist cc in my wife’s ‘17 Acura

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!

WRONG for you -- They are talking about the cruise control -NOT the auto braking system! Do you even OWN a vehicle with this system on it? I think NOT judging by your "profile" . If you don't own one that has this system -- your credibility is severely lacking and borderline trash- IMHO. The auto braking can save your life.

@TRVLR500 Fear comes from a fundamental lack of knowledge. Learn, understand the system, and know how to control it.

Data sharing is a completely different topic.

They WERE talking about the CRUISE control and being able to turn the ADAPTIVE/AUTO CRUISE CONTROL "OFF. You can switch to "normal" cruise any time, or simply turn it off, as one (who has true utilization/working knowledge of the newer system) stated. What model of vehicle do you drive "140,000" miles a year. I am betting it is not the "Toyota" system! Maybe a over the road truck?? Those, I will admit I do not know about. I do know about the Toyota and the Subaru systems. These two are very very close in the way they work.
And it is true -- the auto -braking can't be turned off on these two systems -- but that ain't the "cruise" -even though they are tied together -electonically

Maybe you need to stop driving these 140,000 miles a year - with these "bullshit systems" that is if you can't cope with them?

i post this not to denigrate anyone. see recent Netflix "The Great Hack" to support some of what has been posted here.
However, equating selectable ACC with a high tech conspiracy is an inappropriate stretch and fringe imho.
it is pretty clear the future of directed evolution will involve bionics. hopefully the human race will manage that progress for the better
and minimize/shutdown the missteps. that is the far future. ACC and sensor aids are not anywhere near that level of involvement.
nor is it even part of some of the tech missteps we are actually experiencing now, again, imho.

This is why you're getting mocked, you don't understand the system you're railing against. You may be 100% right about semi's, I have no idea and won't begin to espouse an opinion on it since I don't drive them. But shouting against the wall about how bad some tech you clearly don't have or understand in your Taco is the epitome of ignorance.

We use our Adaptive CC on our Subaru to stay a safe distance behind a truck Actually where my past Co-workers (MSHP Troopers) say is the "safe zone till we desire to pass
If someone decides to pass us and fill in the spot --so be it then our car backs off (automatically) to follow the "filler-inner" at the same safe distance -If you deny this is not a safety PLUS -- then you may want to turn your CDL and get a "less stressful" job for yourself! you may live longer with "less stress" in your work environment.

And BTW -- I wish I had the TSS on my 17 Tacoma! Next truck (if I hang around that long)
