If it helps you decide... ive read/seen some OVTuned users jump ship to HP Tuners. But I havent read/seen it the other way around.

New Kelford cams yeah. But new cam gears alone aren’t giving you that much additional HP. Not even close. Hptuners should fine tune the cam gears like the aprx1 originally did. The ucon tune does but it’s a tamer version

yah I am seeing more of that going. Bummer there is not more going on with OV. I have been happy with it so far. With the S/C I will either need to get the TRD tune add OV to my handheld or jump to HP which may get more options with this rabbit hole.

Kelford cams should use stock cam gears

I think everyone in the group buy did 650cc except for maybe one person that went with 525cc.

Kiel had actually given the nod that with the s/c grinds, the cam gears would move the torque curve slightly more forward of where it would be without them.

Still not a go for the lonely turbo guy here though. Of course, I have a completely different set of grinds as well.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Mat with OVTune is just too overwhelmed with the 3rd GEN. He owns the software and programming. Any and all adjustments or desires are left to his bidding and time. With the addition of newborn, I don't see OVTune getting any faster on development. The queue is newborn, 3.5L, then 4.0. I won't belabor my wait times, but just read the threads and you will see. I had to get the TRD base tune first then email that to Mat for conversion to his 91 and 93 S/C tunes. No issues with them, but no ability to adjust driver characteristics. All this horsepower aside, HP is a FAR better more user friendly, instant gratification setup.

If it makes it any easier for you. The group buy on Kelford cams closed yesterday. I know it is not easy starting out, but just the S/C itself will be impressive plus the cam gears is enough to get you going. Baby steps, your wallet will thank you.

The great thing about the @mightytacoman cam gears is you can switch between 3 deg retard or stock timing on the same gear. No need for new gears if you get cams.

I think the quick change with a 2.7 would be a nice start. Do the snout trim before mounting it. And I think another great choice is the roush tensioner and 50mm pulley. Today's early commute I was doing some testing and it really helps. Can't believe how much power I was losing to the stock tensioner.

I don’t always not look for a black hole to fall into. But when I don’t, I actually do.

Kiel at Kelford said there’s, strictly speaking, no issue with running either stock or the 3 degree retarded gears. He thought theoretically the stock gears would be better for upper rpm, while 3 degrees would be better for low rpm.

Upgraded fuel pump with external fuel filter, TRD reflash from the dealership, @mightytacoman cam gears, quick-change pulley setup, (easier to do the necessary initial work with it on the bench), TRD s/c, HP Tuners TRD tune.

    Friction makes her happy. :rimshot:

Saw @TodayWasTHeDaY in person yesterday. The first person I've met from this club of TRD supercharger modifiers. We enjoyed some weer and bings, and talked about what people are doing to their trucks, and a little bit about what old f!!!ers we are... It was a great time.

I would personally ditch the OVtune setup if you plan on modding and especially if installing a smaller pulley 2.7 or below. The OV supercharged tunes were created from either a 2.8 or 3.0 pulley (can't remember which) but the gains will diminish when you drop in pulley sizes. On a 2.5 pulley I found the TRD tune to be more responsive - ironically because it's less refined and is rich enough to cover a larger threshold of mod changes. Since the OV tunes are fixed - they are refined version of the TRD tune specifically targeting pullies closer to stock size- the more modding you do away from the setup they were designed around, the less effective the tune becomes.

And if you eventually want larger injectors you'll have to switch from OV to HP to tune them.

This. The support and focus is just not there with OV, especially as things start really changing with your truck. HP has support from HPTuners themselves and a few really knowledgeable guys on this forum and the changes that have been made available in a short time have been amazing. For manual trucks eliminating rev hang between shifts has been dreamed about for years - - Hptuners and @JustDSM come along and two months later a cure is found!
