    Yeah.

But the absolute best rivalry of all time was between the Steelers and Cowboys in the 70s.
    Hence my votes.
It was never that good again.

That's when I became a diehard Cowboys fan. Terry Bradshaw and Roger Staubach duking it out. Two of the greats.

    Oh, and good morning all.

I remember Super Bowl X for one incident that illustrates the intensity of the rivalry:

Steelers kicker Roy Gerela missed his second field goal attempt and Cowboys safety Cliff Harris patted Gerela on the helmet.
Steelers linebacker Jack Lambert immediately threw Harris to the ground.
Hoo Boy. Will Lambert get thrown out of the game or not?
    Nah. :p
The Steelers won 21-17 when Steelers safety Glen Edwards intercepted Staubach's pass in the end zone to shut down the Cowboys' final drive.

The Cowboys won Super Bowl XII, and the two would meet again in Super Bowl XIII.
Best Super Bowl ever. The Steelers squeaked out another nail biter.
Coulda gone either way, and the two teams were worthy opponents.

The sport had a different feel then.
More emphasis on team, and way, WAY less showboating.
Rabid fan bases. Genuinely distinct personalities.
The modest Staubach (Captain Comeback), versus the kinda dopey Bradshaw, who still managed to get it done.
    Landry versus Noll.
    Steel Curtain versus Doomsday Defense.
It was combat, and they were serious about it. But it was mostly played clean.

I think there was a lot of the same BS back then. We just hear about it in real time now because of social media. Reporters were real reporters and not a bunch of wanna be bloggers reporting every time somebody farts to get clicks.

I remember when Rafael Septien was the Cowboys star field goal kicker and got busted for child molesting. The joke going around was that Dallas had to implement a no-huddle offense because none of them were allowed to associate with known felons. It's a violent game played by violent guys. But I'm glad all those big, mean bastards weren't unemployed and wandering my street. Of course not all of them were bad. Staubach was the ultimate Mr. Clean and is still a successful businessman.

I dunno. I see their points for the showboating. Getting 30 million dollar paydays before you're 30 years old. I'd do it if I hadn't been a QB in a chess players body.

Anyway. I'm ready for some football. Go Cowboys!

I became a diehard Steelers fan back in the 70's because of the level of competition and true talent.

While he isn't the greatest, Bradshaw will always be my favorite. Same with Lynn Swan.

Tom Landry will always be my textbook image of a top class coach. One of the reasons I absolutely can't stand the Patriots - Bellichek is the exact opposite of Landry. Looks like a rag bag dumpster diver. How many Million$$ does he get paid to represent a multi SB winning team?? And that's how he dresses and acts on the field........ If I owned the Patriots, I would have a very serious heart-to-heart talk with him.
