A front locker in any type of vehicle requires extra care and special driving style , weather its IFS or straight axle. There's nothing wrong with a front locker in the hands of somebody knows how to use it. Ford raptor, Chevy ZR2 both IFS with factory front lockers. In straight axles of course then we have the wrangler, the Dodge power wagon with front lockers.

I'd be tempted to go that route if I wanted the same OR capabilities on my SR5 that the TRDOR has. Heck, maybe I'd have more??

    IDK just a thought!
    Cheers!

Back when 4x4's had solid front axles, yeah. Front lockers one an IFS 4x4 rig have a tendency to destroy CVs axles fairly easily. Not saying it's a bad idea to get one, you just have to be a lot more selectable about when and where (and how) you use it.

That new Chevy truck coming out to compete agains the TRD Pro/OR is supposed to have a front locker on an IFS setup (I think)

Unlike a wrangler, the ZR2 has front lockers, and it's not a solid front axle. I realize it's bad under the wrong hands, I'm curious as to why chevy would add front lockers on something that's potentially a bad idea?

The engineers at GM obviously don't think it's a bad idea. Which I agree with. The only people who think it's bad are these anonymous people online with zero testing zero engineering and so on and so on

It's not like the Dana 30 or 44 found on Wranglers is really that strong. Having an IFS doesn't automatically make having a locker a bad idea and I think that Jeep has had some really good marketing.

Toyota: Lets design a bunch of fancy electronic offroad traction control systems.

Jeep: Fawk it add front and rear lockers, call it a day.

ARB for the win, carry an extra CV in case, only use it when needed, and don't throttle down when one tire is bound up and the other is not.

I run front ARB's in my Rock Buggys, they work flawless.

I imagine the ZR2 might have stronger axles? Idk.. But would you say it's likewise not that bad of an idea for the Tacoma? It would be pretty cool to have front lockers (if used properly of course)

The Colorado shows up with a 7.5" front end while the Taco has an 8.0" front axle. Not really a big difference in strength.

Because they know no one will use it, and I guarantee it will disable automatically over like 3mph or some shit.

Ring gear size isn't the only factor. Bearing size, case strength. I'm willing to bed the Toyota 8" is twice as strong as the Chevy's aluminum case.

My Tundra has an aluminum clamshell up front (8.7") and is rated by Toyota to take about 1100 more lbs than the Taco front end. You think that the size of the bearings, shafts, and CVs would be that different between the Toyota 8" and the 7.5" used in the Chevy?

I would imagine the labor on a front locker would be substantially higher than a rear locker.

I believe the Tacoma 8" front is a world axle that is used in the Prado and Hilux, and not only for the mall crawling American market, such as the Colorado. Having seen the internals of the 8" and having removed one, they are pretty damn beefy for a mini truck.

The procedure for installing a locker in a clamshell is significantly more complex than a solid axle.

    Reminds me of some videos...

The European marketing of the Hilux emphasis "Toughness" Durability" "Longevity" "Power" and "Reliability".American men used to value these qualities.

At some point the water supply was overloaded with female pharmaceuticals causing the "Snowflake " effect on the younger male population..

The marketing for the U.S market Tacoma emphasis "Technology" "E-Tune" "Apple Compatibility" "Cup Holders" "Shiny Front Grill" and "High Tech" plastic dashboards.

How much would it cost to add a rear locker and a front locker on a 2016 TRD Sport?

Check out east coast gear supply, call and talk to Chase or their website is also helpful. It can be pricy so if you plan on going with bigger tires in the future, now would be the time to regear so you can save on labor costs since youve already got it apart

    Welcome btw!
