Thats a little extreme imo. Mine dont even begin to look dirty until 10k has rolled by. Even then Ill blow them out with the compressor before I replace at 20k.

Don't sugar coat it, tell us how you really feel.
Did you have an issue you were looking for some advice on, or just wanting to vent?

Any filter that is in the elements should be used with a pre-filter. It helps with dust particles and wicks away water.

He never ever posts the actual issue he has. Therefore, there isnt much that we can help him with. For all I know, hes just reading some of the few horror stories on here and is paranoid.

I'm at 205k and looking to see what might need to be done before I do a solid road trip from CA or OR.

I got the truck at 175k 4 years ago.

Maintenance wise since then I've done:

    Diff fluid change.
    Valve Cover Gasket.
    Spark Plugs.
    Coil Boot and spring Replacement.
    Valve Cover Coil Seals.
    Oil Changes every 3k.
    Installed an OME lift.

I don't have any records on the truck really from the truck before I bought it. But it was in amazing condition when I bought it.

Currently, my worries are my upper control arm boots are cracking and leaking grease. The transmission fluid, and possibly tie rods need replacement.

Other than that I don't really know what else I should do? Does anyone have tips on what to do to get a "baseline" from here on out? The guys who do some of my work say the LBJ's look good and that there just going to keep an eye on the water pump.

Everything seems fine I just want to make sure this baby lasts till 300k and beyond. I only drive it about 10k a year because I have a super short commute to work currently.

I know this is the general discussion but I thought it might be good to ask it here because I didn't want to start a whole new thread.

Sounds like youve got your bases covered. These 2.7's are in my opinion, the definition of Toyota reliability.

As far as anything else, maybe grease the driveshaft universals. Should put the truck on jackstands and start wiggling tires for play to determine how worn bearings, BJ's, TRE's etc are.

So my brakes are very soft and don't stop well at all, theres fluid in the lines but its leaking out of the reservoir between the master cylinder and brake booster, now is this a problem with the master cylinder, brake booster, or a gasket between them? I pulled the master cylinder and theres a white kind of slimy looking substance that looked like it once was a gasket of some sort inside the brake booster.

Typically heat is the biggest enemy of these pumps and for the abuse I put it through especially with a front locker that does NOT like to steer when engaged, and constantly having issues with reman pumps/a new oem rack, as well as burning out my pump on the last trip, I am willing to try anything to make my steering system last longer. For the what $30 it is to add an inline cooler? it's worth the extra insurance for me. Granted I abuse mine in the rocks and am on 35's, but let's be real, Toyota didn't design the IFS steering system to likely even see the 33's most people run.

Good to know. I'll do that. I got the Tranny fluid changed as well.

I'm just trying to take care of her well. Good to know it should last longer than what shes at currently. What about the carrier bearing?

grab the driveshaft on both sides of the carrier bearing and see if it has a lot of play it in. Should be some but not much. If it's really bad you might be able to see the bushing torn and/or grease coming out of it. Usually if it's shot that bad you'll feel bad vibrations coming from the driveline when you're driving.

Good to know. Currently I don’t really feel any vibrations at all which is good. I’ll still check it out.

    I have mods
Don't forget to add an inline filter on the return line if you are going to do the PS cooler. It should all add up to helping that steering rack and pump last longer.

From there, it wasn't long before we found ourselves on North Peaks Road - first through the forest, and then through the tree line, making our way up, up, up. Then, there we were, getting high - the road the second highest in all of Idaho - on a beautiful day.
