Sorry quicksand but mrtacoman is right to a degree. Of you have brand new tires from the manufacturer, not "new" ones that habe been in a wharehouse for months, the well continue to outgas for a while. Smells like hot rubber. My wild peaks did it for about 2 months. Not saying this is the issue. But it isn't fake news.

Not sure about spreading mis information, but im speaking from my experience. 2 sets of tires i had smelled like burnt rubber after driving in the summer time. Its not a super strong smell but you can def smell it.

It could be the tires? It's 100 degree highs where I'm at. But if it's, tires/brakes then why hadn't I smelled it before? The brakes are not worn out.

Anyway, I dropped it off at the Toyota dealer to have it checked out before the warranty ran out, and they said there was an open recall for the rear diff (leak) so good I brought it in anyway.

Sure, but I have had the same commute and it is until recent I noticed the smell.

Let’s get a bigger sample size before we are convinced we are right and jump all over people. I’m assuming 5+ is 5 sets and a few spares?

While probably not whats wrong with your truck, my fathers jeep used to have horrible burning rubber smell coming from the engine bay every time he drove it. It was a brand new truck and we could never find the smell... even the dealer couldnt find anything wrong.
It wasnt untill my dad checked some of the RV forums that he found his answer. He flat tows his jeep behind his motorhome, while flat towing rubber dust gets kicked up off the road and onto the underside of the exhaust/engine. When he starts it, this rubber burns off the exhaust.

I just think that if the smell of burning rubber came from his tires it would never be enough for him to warrant concern like this. And yes I’ve ordered tires that weren’t in stock, I’ve bought tires in stock, I’ve walked through many lots of brand new vehicles and I’ve never smelled “burning rubber”. Lol

My truck had a leaky valve cover, it either all burnt off on the exhaust or was dripping on the skid plate. It stunk pretty bad when cranking it up and turning on the a/c outside air before getting moving down the road.

Also if your whole engine smells like burning rubber/ oil. Check antifreeze and catalytic converter temp. If you run something low on coolant it wont always register on the gauge that its overheating and if you get one hot enough they definitely stink.

Not being offensive but nothing in this comment is directly related to new tires. Ordered tires from a warehouse that could be a year old. Brand new vehicles on a lot certainly don't have new tires. New to you doesn't mean fresh new. Just saying. Unless you check the date code you really don't know. My wild peaks were like two months old when i got them. And they gassed bad enough you could smell it with the ac on and from three feet away from the truck. Smells like burnt rubber. Now is here in the South and people from the southwest experience a heat that you don't know in Oregon. Just saying before you tell someone they are wrong and stop talking you should consider you might be wrong our not have all the facts. For instance... Two questions op... Do you smell it inside running on the highway as stated above? And where are you from? Both could have direct implications on the situation. Cheers

Turns out it was leaking engine oil from the oil filter area and had lost a quart already. Not sure why? Dealer fixed it for free and I'll be more careful choosing where or how I get my oil changed next time.
