bring along a copy of the TSB to show them exactly what they need to do for your model truck.

Well, I got the TSB done yesterday, picked it up today and saw black shocks. I looked at the parts list and they apparently put new stock shocks back on. I tried to argue with them about it but they would not budge. I called the Toyota 800 number and got them involved and we will see what happens Monday.

You got the wrong shocks for sure, not only did I have this tsb done on my truck but I am a "service guy" and I know for a fact that the Bilstien shocks are blue and yellow, stick to your guns, and quite frankly I don't think I would want that dealership working on my truck. You might be able to find a more responsible dealer nearby that will do the job right, just talk to customer service at the 800 number and tell them about your experience. Good luck!

Got mine done by Charles Maund Toyota here in Austin TX. They ordered the parts, got in two left rear spring packs, had to reorder the correct right rear one. Once they had the right parts, late yesterday, they started the work, and I got it back today. Blue and yellow Bilstein shocks, 4 leaf packs, and rides much more solid, not bumpier at all. Feels much better connected to the road than before.

When they call me back I am going to tell them I want to go to another dealer.

I took the truck in yesterday (when Ed wasn't around) and the first guy I talked to said he'd talked to Ed and that Ed said they were still waiting on the shocks. I handed him my copy of the TSB and pointed to the Parts Section and said, "according to this, my truck shouldn't need shocks... just the springs and U-bolts." He looked at it for a second and said, "You're right. We can do it today. I don't know what Ed was thinking. I read this the same way you do."

I picked it up 3 hours later and all was done perfectly. The correct parts were used, and every indication is that the alignment was done, too.

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but the one great thing about this dealership is they never questioned whether I really needed it. I just drove in and said, "I'd like this TSB done," and they said OK w/o ever asking questions. From there I had a few problems, as I've noted, but whether or not they would perform the work was never in question.

Bottom line... Hoover Toyota in Hoover, AL is a good place to do it, just make sure you talk to Jonathan Dreyer.

i have a 2009 and only 3 leafs. i dont see any numbers on them, only CD stamped on the bottom.

the most ive hauled so far was 10 cartons of tile (30-40lb each?), 1 50 lb bag of mortar and 2 of my material tubs/tools=maybe 200 lbs? Total was probably around 550-600lbs then. didnt notice any bottoming out on the 50 mile ride home. is it safe to assume that they got them right for 09s? sag wasnt too bad either...in comparison my 4runner was practically dragging bumper :)

sorry, I don't want to clutter this thread, but I have a question - anyone have this TSB honored with a lift kit? I have spacers in the front and blocks in the back (3" leveling lift) - so I know the U-Bolts are longer....

Anyone? I've searched this therad and didn't see anything, but it's a big thread so I may have missed it.

    Thanks!

a TSB is not a recall, but it is up to the owner to follow up on it.

I believe the 09's are not having this problem (i could be wrong) anyway as of right now you do not have a TSB for the 09 model.

And may I ask, what is the setup on your 3" lift? What does it includes? Front and Rear.

to level the truck, Did you add something to your front after the TSB?

    Thanks,
    Regards.

i have the revtek (i have this lift on my wife's FJ and it is a great set up) lift that has a spacer up front and a block in the rear under the new four leaf spring pack. i had the lift installed with 400 miles on my 2008 and had the rear spring tsb preformed last week at 1600 miles. the dealership had no problem with the fact i had a lift kit already installed, they even let me test drive a truck that already had the tsb done on it and i could not tell the difference in ride but the handling of the truck was so much better. i am very glad i did it and my truck sits nice and level.

I have a 2007 Tacoma and it originally had a three leaf spring pack on it. After the TSB work was done, it had a 4 leaf spring pack.

Ok i Have a little Dilema.........I went to the dealer for the suspension TSB and they ordered the parts for me. Yezsterday i go in to see the parts and the leaf pack they ordered only has 2 leafgs plus overload (3 total) and the shocks are not bilstein shocks.

so ,my question is......isn't there suppose to be an add-a leaf in the springs as well as belstein shocks all around (non-trd model)

or did they change the tsb and enhanced the technology on the suspension

The shocks they install are not Bilstein, which is why TRD trucks don't get the new shocks. The leaf springs should have four, not three. It sounds like the just ordered replacement parts for what you have.

Did you take the TSB to them? The "Parts Information" section of the TSB is on the second page. Show it to them and make sure they know to order the right things.
