I've always wondered about that area between Dubois and Jackson. Looks very interesting and worthy of exploring. All national forest isn't it?

 

Bunch of wilderness in that area

 

Lots more national forest and BLM land on the dubois side, maybe the most in Wyoming. As Monte mentioned most of the Jackson side is national parks and wilderness. As my post suggested, I would consider seven lakes road a must do if you’re ever in the area, just a stellar experience.

 

Going to be in the area in a few days, might have to check that out.

Let me know if you are down this way, I am pretty flexible until the sixth and hopefully we’ll be doing some trial runs with affordable benders new buggy.

 

I'm heading through the area probably on Monday. Plans are up in the air depending on how fishing is this weekend and where we end up.

 

Having lived in the greater Jackson hole metroplex area since ‘02 I have barely scraped the surface of what the Dubois side has to offer. This summer has by far been my best so far and it would take decades to cover it all at my current pace.

 

Hit me up, if you specifically want good fishing we could head up east fork, if you want a little more technical wheeling we can head up seven lakes, that bottom lake in the pictures supposedly has California golden trout in it.

 

I know that's a pretty challenging place to live year round because of the winters, but the summers must be awesome.

 

January-May is a little tough, unless you have snowmobiles I guess, this summer has been pretty epic.

@Night Eagle and I got skunked on our last attempt for goldens in the Snowys. I would love to land one.

 

I've only driven through there once. It was several years ago around Christmas time. Went from Idaho Falls to Powell. Epic drive in adverse conditions.

 

In any significant snow that would be quite the drive, it’s definitely worth a visit. I’d recommend a minimum of five days to really get a feel for the area, more if you want hit all the cool stuff around lander too, not to mention side bars like split rock and the green mountains if you’re going further east. Stupid employment, always gets the in the way of my good times.

 

Don’t know how many are in your group, but I’ll have three extra seats in the side by side and well it covers ground a lot faster than either of my Toyota’s.

 

We may have got skunked but we did see them eyeing our nymphs, and had the most action at that time of day. But I would love to land a golden.

What all is entailed in rear axle seals? Looks like the 4Runner is leaking on both sides all of a sudden.

Do I need seals and new rear brakes b/c I've gotten oil on the current ones? @Digiratus - shop day?

 

I've never done it. Always a shop. And the only one to not fuck it up was Toyota. Since then, there has been a lot of knowledge spread on this topic on TW. Brett did Monte's and Dan R has done one of his. They are better suited in answering your questions.

 

As for a shop day, may be possible depending on timing. There are two free weekends available ( not counting this weekend) between now and October. Either the 10th or the 17th and one of those two (yet to be determined) I have a commitment with a friend.

Yes need new brake shoes.


Youll need to Fab a tool to hold the backing plate while you press the axle out of it. Pretty simple other than that. Key is to set the seal rings right. You have to tap them on then check how they ride in the seals then tap more. If you over shoot...have to take it all apart.

And yes you need a full press. Tall as possible. The bigger one from harbor freight works fine.
