Had all the same issues people are reporting. Installed OVTune last week and couldn’t be happier. No more hard down shift from 2->1 and no more hunting and down shifting on the highway. Very smooth.

I have yet to see or hear a 3rd gen owner saying their trans or engine blew up or complete failure......other than a comment from a guy on cars.com I think said a seal broke in trans and leaked fluid and causing total failure. Poor soul got a lemon apparently

Is there an interview with Mike Sweers or anyone from Toyota about the HOW, WHAT, & WHY of why they designed the powertrain the way they did?

I’d like to know. At very least, I might like it better if I understood the reasons it seems so variable.

No problems here with motor nor tranny (18 Sport). I did an extensive research with this 3rd gen Taco before purchasing. In all honesty is the best Tacoma yet. What people quote as tranny "problems" is NOT. The engine and tranny was designed like that with full economy in mind. There is a TSB for those who complaint. Lol
