    Usual goes by the factory tow rating of the vehicle.

    Let’s say for instance I happened to buy another FJ40 and needed to tow it home(because who can afford one that runs?). I run down to my local uhaul and rent an auto trailer. They ask me my year, make and model of the vehicle that I’m towing with(said Tacoma) and then what vehicle I’m towing. I tell them I’m towing a 68 corolla. That way I don’t exceed the manufacturers tow rating and they let me rent the the trailer.

    True story...

    Uhaul must think I like to tow my old 68 ‘rolla all over this state.
