This thread is hilarious. You're bitching about a hard hit on your credit which only matters if you get a bunch of them in a short amount of time. This means you care about your credit score.

However, you're also considering trading a truck in on another truck for the same payment. Which means you're paying piles of interest by absolutely never paying off a vehicle and just repeating the cycle over and over.

You have absolutely no sense of good financial practices.

    THIS!!

I can lock and unlock all three reporting bureaus using my phone. I unlock it when I'm leasing at the dealership and lock it before leaving. Leased a 2019 CRV Touring for the wife yesterday and went through this. Normally I pay cash or bring my own financing in if I get a great rate.

The result of "Good financial practices" allow many to just lease and not own. I want a new vehicle for the wife every three years so I lease. I buy my vehicles outright so I can trade out of them if something better comes along. I have not kept any vehicle for more than three years except for the fun stuff. My days of worrying about vehicle financing and keeping a vehicle until the frame rots are long gone.

It's BECAUSE of good financial practices I can now perpetually pay a measly $350 a month forever on the wife's CRV lease. Good financial practices has its benefits.

There comes a time in life when the result of good financial practices are rewarded with not having to scrimp and save or keep a vehicle until the wheels fall off.

I actually worked at a dealership before and the BBB was using negative complaints to try and leverage the owner of the dealership into paying. Told the owner, if they wanted an A+ they would need to pay up. We got this explained to us because a disgruntled customer had contacted the local news and the news was running a story about how since we weren't an A+ rated business or even a BBB business we were some how bad. BTW, the disgruntled customer took their brand new car on a 20k mile road trip without doing any services to the vehicle and killed the motor on the trip. They wanted the dealership to provide them a new vehicle because, "how were we supposed to know that going 20k miles on a 5k mile oil change interval without changing the oil would kill the motor?" The dealership responded to the news story by calling out the BBB and their deceptive tactics and amazing the story disappeared. Also, the manufacturer told the customer to pound sand and they lost their lemon law case.

To the OPs point, yes it is illegal, but likely even if you make a huge fuss, they say it was a communication error or a clerical one, you/they get the inquiry removed and that's that. No ramifications for them.

You can have the hard inquiry removed if it wasn't authorized. Should take one call and about three to seven days before it is gone.

You can sue in Civil Court but would have to prove that it was intentional and not the result of a mistake. You would also have to prove you suffered some sort of loss due to the pull and find a lawyer dumb enough to take on the case. Not happening.

Me? A single pull would not have an appreciable impact on my scores and the whole thing wouldn't be worth worrying about.

I understand your frustration, but .....

Let it go...Your blood pressure will drop and you will feel better.

as was explained earlier... them pulling your credit for an auto purchase inquiry is nothing to get angry about. Any person who actually uses credit information will recognize it for what it is, a one time thing. If you are actually going to be needing a pristine credit report for a home purchase this is easily explained.

My "hunch" is that the issue isn't really about the insignificant hard pull. Everyone knows a single pull by a car dealer has negligible impact.

This is all about disobeying a direct order ;-)

    Nothing more, nothing less...

The OP told the dealer "no credit pull" and was ignored. I understand the frustration but not much can be done after the fact.

You have absolutely no sense in showing any manners on the internet and like sounding smart and tough. Probably picked on a lot in high school and was too afraid to defend yourself.

I didn't contact them. They called me. I didn't want my credit pulled. They pulled it. I wasn't shopping to trade my truck in. They were shopping for another sale.

Yea man I'm in the middle of shopping for construction loans now. Each pull gets me closer to a lower interests rate on the construction loan which is longer and more expensive than this truck.

If i wasn't needed financing on something more important none of this would really matter.

Bingo - lock them NOW for you and your wife. It will cost you something like $15-20 to do all three.

    FTFY

    Agree fully.

Dispute the pull with the credit service, report to corporate Toyota, and have a few beers. It sucks, but not worth a huge headache.

$10k in 2 years? That does not sound right. I did not think they depreciated that fast.

If the can put you in a new truck for what they pay for your old truck to make it right I’d do that. Not same payment, but same price.
Something like pay you $32k for your truck and they can take a $2/3k hit on a new truck by selling it to you for the same $32k they just paid for yours.

I thought you could have 2 hard pulls in a 2 year span without a negative effect on your credit? Still shitty they did that. But if you plan on buying a car anyway multiple pulls for the same type of loan should only effect your credit as a single hit in the end.

Excellent idea. May I also suggest to OP to eat at the worst possible Mexican restaurant an hour before going and wear the assless chaps to curb his out of pocket expense. Payback is a b!tch!

You might as well run your credit through other Banks, Online vendors now. I think that hard pull covers you for 30 days.

That trick of I think I can get you in at the same payment is horseshit. Don't fall for that trick.

Negotiate on the dollar amount of the truck cash price. Then use the finance group that offers the best rate.

Never select a finance deal on monthly payment.
