yah I was thinking of doing the tensioner right away since it seems easy with first install. The smaller pulley I may wait and enjoy the virgin SC before cutting the snout.

Whats the smog/Carb when changing the cams? Was asking my brother who would prob help me install them and he was asking. As I do drive it on the regular and in California I need to consider that. Anyone have an idea?

yah thats the million dollar question. Its a daily (although not as much) so I need it to be solid there. Its queued up if I want to order it.

Reading up it seems it all depends on how much overlap is on the cams. If its mild it should pass if its too much forget about it. more overlap means more "bad air"

as long as it passes any sniffer test i dont see how it wo uld matter. not like they going to take apart your engine to check to make sure all OEM parts are there

yah thats part of it. Really depends on how aggressive his cams are. I sent him a note to see if he had any insight.

You could get as much overlap as you want. They cannot see it despite the fact that they know the mod is there, and the truck is newer than 2001 so there will not be a sniffer on it, so if they can't see it and the check engine light is not on then you can do what you want. That's the rule of the land out here.

Makes sense, you think it would throw a check engine light? I am half way in on the shaft and will be probably ordering the gear today at the least.

They don't do the sniffer test on vehicles 2001 and newer? I didn't know that, that makes me feel better about my upcoming STAR smog test lol

Not with the proper tuning it would not. You would need to get HPTuners to make sure you A do not throw a light, and B get the most power out of the cams possible.

Tuning is the name of the game here in mod country. Hahaha.

yah sounds like HP tuners will be a must add either by me or getting a tune on credits from someone. Now just going back and forth on the cam shafts. How much is it worth it to me? =)

As much as I would love to get them I personally have to know when something is a good idea and a bad idea and when I have to say no and walk away from a mod idea.

Perhaps when this thing is no longer my daily, which I do not foresee happening.

yah thats kind of where I am. Seems like a few people bought them and bought gears but no one is really running it yet so its a bit unproven. I can't really have it down. Did that a bunch last year with gears, suspension changes etc. its a big investment for a maybe. Kind of like my rear disc conversion which is sitting in the garage the past year.

Engineers get anxious when they don't have too much information. And data spreadsheets. And graphs...

Thanks. I've had a few and this one is my favorite.

    Haha.

I'll test them out good for you.

Don't let it being a daily stop you! Didn't stop me, as you can see.

Did you have any control buttons for anything in the stock wheel?.....radio, phone. If so what did you do with that wiring when you installed a wheel like this with no buttons?

Ya, I had radio and cruise control switch. The harnesses just disconnect at the clock spring, it's pretty clean. I relocated the cruise control. I did a writeup on that a while ago actually. Some trolls made fun of me for it being a make-work project, but keeping cruise control is pretty awesome.
