Mine's not in terrible shape but I got a new one to put on anyway since it has more play than I think is normal, plus I get some pretty noticeable vibes on accelerating and a rough driveline 'jolt' inbetween shifts. Could be other things but I'm starting with the carrier bearing.

If/when you decide to replace it, check out this thread

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1st-gen-genuine-oem-carrier-bearing-for-79.583219/

You can get the OEM bearing made by Spicer for around $80 directly from them, much cheaper than getting the OEM packaged version through Toyota.

I did the timing belt/ water pump on my taco. Replaced all the timing components as well as the fan bearing bracket, thermostat, drive belts, ac idler bearing and fan clutch. Cleaned a bunch and painted some rusty parts.

A leaking water pump is what prompted this repair more than anything else. Was coming out as a steady drip.

Truck had 230,254 mi when I did the job. I bought at truck at ~175k mi and according to the previous owner the timing was done around 150k20190727_131306.jpg 20190727_180657.jpg 20190727_222558.jpg 20190728_201229.jpg

I forgot to cap my deck plate on my last camping trip and drove for nearly 5 miles with my intake sucking in dust from someone driving on the dirt road in front of me. Cleaned it the other day, and the k&n filter I have was dirty as shit on the "in" side, nearly scotch free on the "out". Made me fairly confident in my filter, will not lie

The issue I had with the K&N is it is so small. Its half the thickness of the stock filter. The AEM Pro filters are the same size as the stock filters, twice as thick as the K&N and should give twice the surface area for air flow. I also has pollen collect inside my intake, going past the K&N so I replaced it with the AEM.

fair enough, just wanted to give my results with a wet vs dry filter. If the case be that wet's are a more "clean" alternative

By theory as well, less surface area= less resistance= more airflow? the only discriminating factor of resistance would be the material and how porous it is?

Correction to my last post, it was aFe filter I got.

No, more surface area = more area for air to pass through. The aFe was comparable to the K&N's filter median but maybe a bit thicker, however having twice the surface area more than makes up for it.

It definitely filtered better than the K&N as it didn't let pollen pass through. Pollen isn't small and it was a bit troubling to remove the K&N filter and find yellow pollen coating the intake behind it.

Highly recommended over the K&N: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ABMOSY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used a can of engine enamel from Oreillys. We'll see how she stands up over time. paint

I really don't like putting rusty parts back onto my truck, even if I know they'll rust up again eventually. At least it'll look good for awhile lol. I even go as far as cleaning all the nuts and bolts with the wire wheel on my grinder. You can see in the pic with the new water pump, them bolts didn't get shiny again by magic....

Got a question for you fellas.

I am looking to upgrade to the 140 amp alternator, do the "big three" upgrade, and install a Bussmann box with circuit breaker. From the builds I've seen, guys are putting the fuse panel and breaker up near the firewall, but I have the fuel vapor canister thing in the way. I haven't been able to figure out where else to put the fuse panel and I don't want to run it all the way to the passenger side of the engine bay. Anybody have any suggestions?

is there enough room to mount it over the vapor canister and clear the hood? I think the newer trucks have the vapor canister under the bed, maybe you could relocate yours?
