Just got off the phone with Netflix to gain access to my account again...

Got this email:


...followed up by another informing me that my email address was updated.

First, I did not follow any links in their emails, but went straight to netflix.com to get their phone number. Then after taking to them, they just needed the last 8 digits of my card on file to change the email back, and issue a password reset email be sent to it.

I specify my process here in case anyone ever questions similar emails, or maybe should question them before some social-engineering takes place. If you get notified of odd account behavior, contact the company through normal means, not by simply following directions in an email (that could be spoofed); this wasn't the case here, but you can't be too careful anymore.

 

Same Bs happened to me recently with Gamestop. Forgot I even had an account with them honestly. Gave em a call to report the activity and after fighting a robot to talk to a human person we got it squared away.

I never give out any information unless I initiate the call.

If I do get calls about account stuff and they start asking me questions I politely decline and tell them I will go on their website and call the number there. If they're legit they don't care either way.

Its when they start getting worked up... SCAM!
