Removing car polish from trim

Accidentally left car polish on the tailgate handle. It's dried up now. What's the best stuff to remove it?

Soap and water? Maybe Dawn Dish Detergent.

That's I use Turtle Wax Ice, it doesn't leave a residue on plastic trim.

It looks like you got a Lund Genesis tonneau? If so, .

Otherwise, you got some on there, and I ain't talking about the handle.


The one that is often quoted and I always forget to try is peanut butter. Give it a shot unless you have rodent problems.

 

This stuff and a stiff bristle toothbrush works great. Just be careful to keep it off of the waxed portion of your car (or do a quick 'spot wax' application when you're done)

The next time you wax, apply a protectant like Armorall to the textured trim pieces first. The wax will lift off a lot easier if you do accidentally paint outside the lines.

 

Also try a pink eraser.
What product did you use? That looks like it's not coming off very easily!

 

Stiff brush (nylon) and dawn. Just work it. It is the brush that does the work.

 

Forget pink erasers!!! Get these these MAGIC RUB Art erasers. They do work but it takes a little time. I would tape off around the black plastic so you don't rub the wax off the paint. I had a 2016 black Tacoma I thought I took great care in not getting any paint sealant on the black plastic. I was wrong. I used these very erasers to get the sealant off. Then I started using Meguiar's Ultimate liquid wax if I want to rub wax on my paint.

Often imitated, never duplicated.

 

I dont typically like the chemical guys, but the vpr is good and may work? also, tape off plastic trim with painters tape before waxing/polishing

 

How in the hell do you get it all inside the Toyota logo, yet none on the tailgate cap?

 

that is a product i have not tried yet for exterior trim
is it much different than this similar item?

It takes a lot of time and effort to remove it. I tried a pink eraser and that removes 80% of it.

There are many trim wax removers on Amazon. The last one I tried worked really well.

However, you have to use a black trim restorer.

Yeah this is the one I recently used. It works well, but a black trim restorer is also necessary. I tried a restorer by the chemical guys and it works m and lasts for weeks.

The best thing to do is put masking tape on your black trim whenever you apply a sealant/polish or paste wax

 

Purple power and nylon brush is what I would try first. Gas on the rag for last resort as someone has mentioned.

 

The first and last time I waxed my truck I used a big pink pencil eraser. I slipped a 3x5 card between paint and plastic to protect the paint.

 

I use Meguiars Ultimate wax. My brother turned me on to it. Does not leave a white residue on plastic parts.
