I think character depends on what you expect a beer should taste like. Lagers do not taste like IPAs for me. And all lagers do not taste like what I expect. The first time I had VL in Nelleysford when DB opened like 10 years ago, it reminded me of the taste I grew up on. That taste is what I measure all beers on. Am bev makes the beer now in Lexington but they have not f**k with the beer. Somehow it only tastes right around Charlottesville. I have had it on tap locally but it is not the same. Maybe it is too cold here.

I'll take your word for it, brother. I expect a beer to have the flavors that I like..haha, that is shallow and self-centered, but I know what I like. I love IPAs. Some are bad, some are good, and some are freaking great! I guess that would be the same with anything, right? I am not an IPA-only drinker...I love pretty much all styles. Obviously a lager is not going to taste like an IPA, but I think that the DB VL's that I have had so far are a far cry from what I think is good. Your experience is obviously different, and that is what I love about beer. Everyone has their flavors and styles, but that may not be the same for everyone else. Honestly, I really wish I could have had the lager you are talking about from Nelleysford...sounds amazing!

I am down for that, but I think you should try it! If the beers in that 6-er are good, then maybe we should get some more down here? I have family that goes to Canada yearly and can have them grab some... BTW, I will have a Pliny for you when I get back from Cali this month...you need to have the best IPA on the planet.

I'm not a "sour" guy. I still try one every now and then, but so far... They are not working out for me. That said, if ya want it, cool. if not. I'll offer it up to the crowd here. As for Canada, I've had some good ones form there..

I'm not really a sour guy either, but I would love to try it. Actually, my friend that lives in Culpeper is a huge sour lover...would love to share it with him. I'll trade you a Pliny for it...
