Well I am going to be getting a 2020 soon so I stopped at the stealership to find out when they would be taking orders. I was told by the general sales manager that due to excessive 2019 inventory the 2020s would not be coming out until January.

This sounds like total BS to me.

BTW - this is the same stealership that had no clue about the 2016s when they first came out.

I have called 2 different dealers. 1 in Omaha, NE where I live and one in Indiana that I used to work at. Neither of them knew when because Toyota isn't offering any allocations yet. The Indiana dealer says they have 1 special order setup for a customer already, but no idea of the shipping date.

I would like to know if this is soon, because my 2017 lease is due Mid September!

2020 Tacoma production begins 9/2. No chance dealers are waiting till January to see them. The factory will ship them once they are built.

Allocations are made and filled for each truck I before it is manufactured.
every Tacoma built is spoken for at a dealer. If indeed build starts in September, allocations are Being made. Higher volume sales dealers get more allocations.

I was told by two dealerships that they should start to see them mid Oct/Nov. Idk if region matters at how quickly they can get them, but them seemed pretty confident that they would have some soon enough

October/November for most models. Think it's a little longer for the pro models, 4runner and taco till end of year even early 20 for some options is what I'm told.

Was at my local dealership to pick up some parts a few days ago. Every Tacoma on the lot had ~$1500 in port accessories (nerf bars, mud flaps, blackout package and floor mats), and ~1400 dealership crap package (tint, pinstripe, nitrogen, door edge guards). So a $3000 markup for stuff I wouldn't want. I think the 2019 inventory is going to be on their lot for a long time :)

Won't Toyota send them trucks regardless even if they don't move their 2019 inventory?

I am also in Omaha and was at a dealer last week. Once they got it through their head that I wouldn’t buy a 2019 because I wanted CarPlay, they tried a couple things to get money out of me right away. First they told me I could just buy a 2019 and go to a local stereo shop and buy a new stereo that had CarPlay. Then they tried to get me to put a $2000 deposit down to preorder a 2020. I then asked them what the point of that would be when they had no idea when they would get them or what the pricing would be. Finally, the manager told me perhaps it would be wise to wait after all, then went on to say they had heard the current models hadn’t been selling as well as expected and that there might be a body refresh for the 2020’s. They didn’t have an answer to my question asking how that could be when the 2020’s have already had initial reviews and nobody indicated any such thing.

So I still have all my money and am not-so-patiently waiting.

I have a friend inside Toyota who has assured me 2020 build starts 9/2. I don't know if that's fleet sales first, or which models, but the last 2019 will be produced the week before. Of this i'm 100% sure. When they get to the dealers?? I would assume Texas gets them first, maybe my 3rd week of Sep?

My sources at Toyota stated that 2019 will still be produced up until August 20. (At least!)

I was told the last week of production they build some 2020s along with 2019 so I’ll guess that’s the week after the 20th and on 9/2 it’s 100% go. Either way we’re both basically saying the same thing.

I went to go and build a 2020, my dealer said they will get them 1st of next month. I just want the online builder to come out so I can price it out :(

FWIW, I recently read a review on the 2020 Tacoma and it mentioned 8/16 as the first order date.
