HP Tuners for 2005-2015

What’s a good over/under number I should be within on AFR’s when doing WOT pulls ?

 

Anything within (+/-) a few tenths of 11 is considered good/safe.

 

Follow up question for the gurus - how reliable/accurate are the EGT readings that are pulled from the OBD2 port. I am running the idatalink maestro interface on aftermarket radio and the egt gauge reads almost 1400 deg f when cruising on the highway.. this can't be right, right ? seems waay too high.

 

They are not based on actual temps. There are lookup tables that have temp values predefined for each load/rpm.

You can edit those tables to report any temperature you wish.

Yup. There are no temp sensors in the tacoma exhaust whatsoever.

 

Great news, I never really paid attention to these numbers on the maestro interface until just recently, just making sure I wasn’t close to blowing this mf’er up.. time to invest in a wideband set-up

I should have some logs for you this week. Chris has got my pid’s working nicely now.

 

With credits when you buy 4 can you modify update the same ECU more than once or is it $50 per update? Maybe I missed that. Debating on getting a OV SC Tune or this magic that is HP Tuner. Seems to be a vial option for sure.

 

You can modify the licensed ECU as many times as you like after the 4 credits.

 

This may have been discussed but is there any difference between the ecu's reading of afr's and aftermarket gauges for tuning work?

 

Yes. Our OEM sensors aren't wideband, while (all?) of our aftermarket gauges are, so the ECU "sees" much less than we (our datalog) does.

 

Thanks. I've got the uego x-series. I believe its capable of having logging connections. Think it needs another controller or something.

 

Toyota sensors are wideband.

 

The AEMs have a 5v analog output

 

To complement HPTuners.
Toyota front sensors = WRAF sensors. Wideband Ratio Air Fuel.

 

Appreciate the education and not arguing - just trying to understand... If the OEM sensors are WB, why does the AFR data from the ECU seem more limited than what we get from aftermarket gauges? Why is an aftermarket gauge required to properly datalog before adjusting fuel mixture?

 

Limitations of the OEM ECU is my understanding. Someone else with more detailed knowledge can expand on that. X-1 and UCON don't need additional gauges to read and datalog the full spectrum of the AFRs from the OEM WRAF sensors. Continually in closed loop.

 

So the hp tuner pro set up is needed to communicate with this 5v wire correct?
