Just installed a Pioneer MVH-8200BT on the weekend.

I never spliced the parking brake interlock into anything since I have no idea where the parking brake wire is on my '10 6-speed manual, but also partly because I heard that I can just tap into the black ground wire coming from the HU itself in order to defeat the parking brake interlock. I really couldn't care less about having video while driving, but it just seems infinitely easier to tap into the ground wire rather than ripping apart half my dash trying to find the parking brake wire.

So...anyone tried this yet with a current model Pioneer deck yet ? The manual instructs to apply the parking brake, release the parking brake, and then apply it again having the brake pedal depressed the whole time before the HU will enable video. I've heard that lately manufacturers are trying to make it harder to defeat the interlock. Would this multiple applications of the parking brake prevent people from using a ground tap to get around the interlock ?

I don't really understand the electronics behind the parking brake tap, will I fry everything if I tap the ground wire ?

OR...does anyone have clear, easy instructions about how to find the parking brake wire for a manual transmission ?

    Thanks for reading this :D

Don't really know how to tap into the factory wires for the parking brake?? You can just buy a small single pole single throw SPST toggle switch and hook one end to the stereo and the other to ground. then you just flip on-off-on-then leave on to simulate the sequence you posted. You could easily hide this under the dash or wherever. That's what i would do.

I used a switch on mine like Kristonex suggested.

    Update:

I eventually found the parking brake wire. It's on the firewall, coming out of a plunger switch that is activated by the linkage that tensions the brake cable. It was a pain in the ass to locate and work on. I located the switch by twisting around like a contortionist and cramming my head in amongst the pedals and then releasing the parking brake and watching the linkage path until I saw it make contact with the switch.

Next time I'll do what others have suggested and wire in my own switch and locate it somewhere easy to reach. Oh well, at least I learned something about my truck I guess.

Good job finding it. If you find that that method of using the actual e-brake is a pain you could still go the route of a switch later.

I did a mod last night to my Pioneer AVH-P3200BT that I've found on multiple other sites involving the relay that hedlesbrmstkbass was referring to. It works like a champ. The theory behind it makes sense, it's easy, and you never have to apply or re-apply you parking brake or press any switch to get it to work.

Disclaimer: Keep in mind that legally the driver can't be able to see DVDs, etc., while driving. I've heard the fines are steep. I did the mod because I couldn't direct-dial a phone # through BT without having the brake on, not to watch DVDs while driving. Go figure...Pioneer lets me search through my 200+ contacts on the head unit while driving, but I can't dial 10 digits.

    The mod is simple.
-Go to Radio Shack and buy: a 4-pole 12V relay (mine is 30a, I believe), spade connectors, and some 14-16 ga black wire.
    -Disconnect the vehicle's battery
-Remove your radio and look for the wire that is for "remote" that would run an amp or power antenna that requires power from the head unit (mine was blue/white). Crimp a spade connector onto this wire, and connect it to the relay terminal marked 86.
-Find the infamous green parking brake wire, crimp on a spade connector, and attach it to relay terminal 87.
-Using the black wire and two more spade connectors, run terminals 30 and 85 to a good chassis ground.
-Mount the relay somewhere (easier said than done in some applications, I'm sure). There was actually enough clearance in my install that I mounted it to the back of the radio security bar with a small screw.
-Re-attach the battery and power it up!

The longest part of this mod is taking the radio out and reinstalling. The wiring part takes only minutes.

Why does this work? (yes, I was skeptical also until I though about it) For the radio features that require the brake to be on, the head unit has to power up and THEN sense that the parking brake is on (grounded). Think about it...if you read the manual, it says you may have to take the brake off, then put it back on if the vehicle was started with the brake on. This mod works because the "remote" wire from the head unit powers up a fraction of a second AFTER the head unit powers up, triggers the relay, and provides a ground to the green brake wire after the short delay.

I'm not taking credit for what other's have posted elsewhere...I'm just too lazy to look up all of the sites!

There's a good video on youtube that shows you how to do this too. I'm kind of a visual learner so, your post made a lot more sense to me once I saw it being done. The link I'm posting shows him moding an AVH-P4200DVD, but the principle is still the same. Thanks for posting that! I wouldn't have found it otherwise.
