Took my truck to slidell, la to locate an old fishing spot. The area got revamped with fancy apartments, subdivision, a boat dock, eats and a gas station BUT there was a road dirt road that lead me to it and it looks like some made new roads to other fishing spots. Rear locker had some fun that day.

Went in to get a diff drop and found out I already had one installed now I’m just trying to figure out why I shredded a Cvj boot in 2 months. The boots dont look like they still need to be adjusted so

The only thing I can figure is that its rubbing on the lca.

So lower control arms for first gens.... what’re my options?

Marlin crawler is sold out of theirs, dirt king doesn’t make them for first gens and neither does total chaos.

 

How big of a lift do you have?

If your cv angles are too much they’ll shred themselves.

 

I don't know how you'd ever even get close to rubbing on the LCAs. My guess is that your lift is too high. You really want to be in the ~2" range, with a max of 3".

Post a pic of your CV angles with the truck at rest - we'll be able to tell pretty quickly if the lift is the issue. If it is, no boots are going to help you; the solution is lowering the front, or choosing a different lift style (which will have it's own compromises).

 

Diff drops don't really do much of anything anyway. If your boot fins are rubbing together and tearing then the best thing to do is lower your front lift down bit by bit until they don't rub anymore. Or maybe try the boot slide mod, haven't done that one myself though.

I had issues with boots tearing too and installed a diff drop which didn't do anything visibly to make the angles of the CVs better. Only thing that worked was taking my front lift down to about 2.25", and haven't had boot issues since.

 

Not for that one iirc, the wire to it is like a foot long.

Fixed my clunking today via greasing the slip yoke (thanks Timmy and your video). Also replaced some hoses (thanks for the link for the replacement silicone ones). Air filter was a little dirtier than I would've liked, but I fixed that as well. Today was a good day!

Up next: fix that rusty section on my front bumper.

Damn. Those will go quick. I promised I was not putting any money into the taco but I'm so tempted right now. lol

 

Seriously that's a good price. Got too much $ wrapped up in maintenance crap on my truck right now though

 

You should pick them up. I don't really "wheel" my taco the way I wheel my 4runner so I'd like to see them go to someone who will use them more. A rebuild is pretty cheap if you do it yourself. A bet Assburns would give you a hand with the rebuild.
