Any issue shifting while in cruise control after this mod? I was wandering if this thing was installed to help feather the gas and clutch with cruise control engaged.

Honestly, I don't work the clutch while in cruise control. To down shift, I either tap the brake first, or do a quick flip of the stalk to drop out of cruise control, then down shift.
Although I'm sure some people do it, I don't see a time I would up shift in cruise control. I don't set cruise control until I'm at the speed I want to travel.

The cruise control should automatically cancel if you use the clutch.

    From owners manual:
“The speed setting is also canceled when the brakes are applied or the clutch pedal (manual transmission only) is depressed.”

edit: Unless the TSS radar cruise models are different.

    SOON...
Pretty crazy to a long-time manual driver, but the cruise will stay engaged when you downshift on the highway.

That’s the adaptive cruise on the ‘18s and newer...the ‘16s and ‘17s are old school and the cruise shuts off when you press the clutch

I have pretty much abandoned the adaptive cruise, and engage traditional cruise when on the highway.

I’m super pumped they kept regular cruise along with adaptive cruise....I have no intention of upgrading to a newer model, but if I ever have to because of an accident, I’m glad I can still have the regular cruise on my MT

The only feature I use less than adaptive cruise, is the auto dim high beams, (I've only it tried it twice, and both times, it only served to anger the oncoming traffic).

I was driving to work the other day in my van and was cussing someone for having their brights on and not dimming. When they got closer, they dimmed and i saw it was a taco. I know from using mine once that it dims too late. I don't use it.

(Assuming they had that feature on of course)

The problem with the auto highbeams is that even though its adjustable, if you increase the sensitivity so it turns off sooner, itll just keep flicking off every time you pass a reflective sign.

I commute through the city, one side to the other, twice a week. Speed is constantly varying from 80 down to zero. My '19 has the tech package with all the bells and whistles. The adaptive cruise control is great on city freeways. And, the collision avoidance braking feature has saved my truck from getting totalled at least once.

My commute would suck without shifting while in adaptive cruise. Being able to shift in cruise control is magical.

The adaptive cruise is pretty good, but the sensor range is a little short. It can wait too long before slowing down if you are coming up behind really slow or stopped cars. My friends Tesla does the same thing though. We car pool with the Tesla now almost exclusively.

My least favorite Taco feature is the lane assist. Way to many false alerts. I'd rather a sensor that just looked to the side and alerted if I am drifting toward a car alongside or if they were drifting towards me.

What is better about older cruise control? You have to turn it off every time a car merges in ahead of you or traffic slows down. Seems far less useful to me. Am I missing something?

You're kind of in a thread about making an MT truck more manual.

Given what you have said about you 2019, you have had seemingly more issues due to lack of attention than I have had with my 2017 in almost 24,000mi. Maybe I am reading more into this than there is?

    Who knows?

It’s like @tonered said, it’s about driving the vehicle myself. I like having a stick because I genuinely enjoy driving the truck. It’s engaging.

Sure adaptive cruise can be great sometimes, but I’ve driven enough other vehicles with it that I couldn’t stand it because it was too sensitive (slowed down to early, punched the gas too much, just not “dialed in”).....so the nice thing about the Tacoma is that you’ve got the best of both worlds, adaptive AND regular cruise

Adaptive is probably great in stop and go to slow traffic.....my experience is that it’s not great at 70mph+ when somebody does a Jersey Sweep and cuts you off making that 4 lane change. Honestly, I’d probably use both all the time.

One more reason the Tacoma is the Swiss Army knife of vehicles

    This!

Although, I believe that the Taco ACC cuts off under 25mph? I had a rental Corolla that did that also. I was laughing thinking that under 25 is when it would be most helpful.

There are times when I can see that a fully autonomous vehicle could be nice to have, but that tech is not really even close yet. If I have to give up the MT, I want to go whole hog on the next level, with a 50mph speed limit bump to go with it.

    iRobot, FTW!

I'm not the best driver, but I've never been in an accident. The safety stuff just got on the brakes a second faster than I could on a day where that second would have made the difference.

I got the MT to have better RPM control and engine braking in the mountains, but I do generally prefer an MT on any vehicle I can get it on.

The adaptive cruise on the 2019 is pretty smart. It won't slow you down if a car cuts in front of you and doesn't slow down. It will hold tight with them and ease back very gently to re-establish the set following distance. But if the merging car starts slowing down, then it reacts quick to move you back away from it. It seems to be about as smart as any human driver in that case, but there are a few limitations to the sensor in terms of range, and also in terms of not getting confused by adjacent lanes on a curve on the freeway. It sometimes holds you back in that case when it wouldn't have to. Still, I love it in traffic where the speed is constantly varying.

I got my ADM done yesterday after worship time. Clutch feels better already and I only drove a few miles. I did not bleed the system but was wondering what might be the effect if air was in the line? Sluggish clutch pedal return, something else?

You would be able to tell if you had air in the lines. The clutch pedal would likely not return or return slowly and have an obvious "dead spot" on the way up. If you have air in the lines, you could also not be completely disengaging the clutch.

I'm surprised you were able to do this without bleeding the system. Or, did you just gravity bleed (that's all I did)?
