An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Get some security bolts for the rack. Depending on how secure you want it, they have different bolt designs. Most of them have some sort of a key socket that needs to be used. Do your research if you go this route, some are better than others. If it's going to be permanent then you could get break off head bolts. The head breaks off when you torq the bolt down leaving a smooth top that's a bitch to get off, but secure.

I was thinking security nuts, McMaster Carr sells pyramid head bolts you can’t remove unless you sandwich another one on top.

There are a couple of anti- theft mounting/ lock systems on the market.
I use the iKamper set. The boots pass through a locking plate. The only way to get it off is to first use a key to remover plate.

I have an extra pair still in box from a shipping mishap if anyone wants them on the cheap.

I’m not asking $120, $60 & shipping and I don’t know who made them first. I just have an extra set laying around for cheap if someone wanted the security. The fact that I bought a RTT made in Korea negates the entire buy in the USA idea. I don’t think there are many RTT’s made entirely in the US anyways.

The bolts from tent drop down on either side of the bar just like normal. In this case the bottom piece that you slide up the bolts to grab the bottom of the bar is fitted with a lock and key that are positioned around the nut. Once locked you cannot access the nit until you have unlocked the lock.

So up we went, the highest road in Idaho, ours for the travelling. There would be - at least for a moment - no Toyota's higher.

Check out the highest road in Idaho, and the weirdest mine to boot - Getting Even Higher in Idaho, Again

The real answer is that - by the time someone is taking off your rack - there's no real way to secure a tent on the back of your truck. My solution is to park inside at night.

Unfortunately intellectual property laws are almost non-existent for overseas based companies, so even though we have a patent on our security system, 4 other tent companies have come up with lazy copies. 1 was bold enough to come out with their own bootleg security mount after contacting us and finding out that our profit margins are too low for them to be interested in re-selling ours, this is the same company that was selling just the security hardware alone for 80 bucks. We are a tiny 2 person-operation run by a disabled vet (myself) and my wife, so the cold hard truth is we make less off these things than these corporations can spend on just marketing alone, and the legal fees would likely bankrupt us. Regardless of having the law on our side it seems to be a losing battle any way you look at it. On principle alone we will continue to send cease and desist letters, and we thank everyone who has believed in us and supported us along the way.

Send help lol. Mounting brackets from freespirit don’t go around my crossbars for my front runner, any ideas?

Go to Ace hardware and buy bolts that are a half inch to an inch longer

Also my CVT just uses 1/4" thick steel straps with holes to mount. Nothing special or fancy[IMG]

I guess if someone really wants something they will find away. I am currently still running the tent off Thule surf racks, short of cutting off the rack attachment points there really isn’t a way to get them off without a key and access to the inside of my shell. I wish my garage was high enough to drive truck in with RTT.

I am saving and researching for a lower profile rack. I don’t like the current set up because of the high center of gravity.
