What do you all think about this quote from a local dealer. Seems like a “fluffy” oil change to me.

Can I just ask for an oil change only?

Thoughts? 368 seems high for so much “inspecting” and not much doing.

Make them do the AT fluid level check, exactly as per Toyota’s guide, and “adjust/top off as necessary”. That’ll be worth it, but you’ll have to watch them do it, and insist.

You can extend ToyotaCare to 45k for less than that.

$369 oil change, new air filter and rotate tires. Mark your tires to see if they rotate them.

In 2018, the standard maintenance coverage(at least in California is 24 mo/25k miles.

Yes, I think it’s 329. To me that amounts to 2 oil changes, and 329 seems high for 2 oil changes. The other stuff is basically fluff. Tires are going to be shot soon so I don’t see any need to rotate at this point. I’m going to go to my local shop and get the quote for an oil change.

The Toyota maintenance stuff included is just 2 oil changes year for 2yr/24k miles. Service interval maintenance "packages" are not. Technically Toyota is supposed to check all those things when the vehicle is in for regular services, its on their work order sheets. They are actually charging you 300 more than they should. All they are really doing is a rotation and oil change with filter. And as long as your vehicle is newer, Toyota will check boxes that they did things they didn't even do. Services included and charge you for them

You just have to know how to play game.
They do most of those inspections for free every time you are in for service.
Because they have to fill out the checklist, and they want to upsell you on other work if possible.
That’s why you go in and ask for just a rotation every 5k and a LOF every 10k
They will charge you 0.3 extra just for asking for the X thousand mile service, but do the exact same things.

And if you have a basic understanding of how labor overlap works, you can really have some fun fucking with them when they tell you that something needs to be replaced and try to charge you more.

“oh I need a cabin air filter, and that’s going to be 25.00 and 0.2 labor? But how do you know that?....because the tech already took it out of the glovebox and inspected it right? And if I say no, he’s just going to put it back right?
So if he’s already taking it out and putting it back for free, what is this difference for replacing it? Are you charging me for him to walk over to the parts department, get the new filter and take it out of the box?
Yeah....no. I’ll go ahead and pay for the part, but not the labor, and BTW please don’t forget my Costco discount on the filter, thanks.”

I did that with my 2004 Tacoma that I bought "certified" used so it came with the 100k warranty. At 90k+, the water pump started leaking. I took that in to get it replaced. While there, I asked them if they would charge me labor for replacing all belts, including the timing belt. "Yes." I asked "Why? You have to take all belts off to replace the water pump. What difference does it make if you put new belts on in place of the old belts?" "Oh, you are correct. No labor will be charged." "Okay, replace all belts. And save the old belts for me when you are finished."
