Looks very shinny, not my style, but you did a nice job. I guess I can just tap it off well and cover the surrounding area and go at it still with some matte black spray.

Yup I used a 1/2 drill bit here...it was just big enough to free the metal bolts from the plastic...came right off and cleaned up nice. No need to drop the headliner and disturb the wires that are glued into it if you have a powered sunroof.

Yeah, you're not drilling through the bolt. Just enough to weaken the plastic around it.

I bought and used the above screws thinking that it would look neater than spray painting the screws that came with the light. Within a week they started oxidizing and already look reddish/brownish :( I'm back to painting the original screws black.

I actually painted the ones I got from mcmaster and they still rusted around outer edge. I may scotch-bright the stainless ones and paint them. Anyone had any luck with doing this?

Finally, she’s done! BD4 Cam, 2 red at center, 2 white cargo lights on the outside. Ran the cam to the head unit and will be using the Car Solutions TTG2 to interface with the OEM steering wheel controls and retain factory use of the tailgate cam under normal operation. I went ahead and used some Delphi connectors to connect the factory wiring with the third brake light.

UPDATE: TTG2 has been installed and all works as intended. Overall, everything was straight forward to install. I did take my time wiring and removing panels as I’m a little OCD about that kind of stuff. Plan on a couple hrs for the BD4 Cam and you’ll be good. The most time consuming part is running the camera wire from the third brake light, down the rear pillar and back up to the head unit (I ran it and on the passenger side as I already had the glove box dropped.)

    UPDATE:
I am planning another run of 100 of these later this month. (Capped at 100 because I don’t want to get buried). They will also be available PAINTED or RAW.
This will save some money if the user want to DIY, and me some time because painting all 100 was the biggest time consuming task last time.
I will most likely do a few more batches of these before I phase out and into my own brand/light. The HEXPOD.

Also, After looking high and low the mating male side connector that will plug into the OEM truck side.. I have concluded it is non existent. So, I met with my connector supply company and we are molding my very own connector so people won’t have to splice/cut/etc. small details, but they all add up to a seamless install:D

That looks great. The cam is really hidden in there.

It really is. You can’t hardly notice it unless you’re really paying attention, and even then, it’s subtle and does not look out of place. The cam is a very snug fit as well, so water penetration or rotation of the cam itself will be a non-issue.

Great job on the housing. You put some serious time and thought into the build!

Just finalized all dimensions, so the mold with start soon. As for ETA, I am not sure yet but it’s a small part so I wouldn’t think too long.
