2019 TRD-OR Poor MPG

my 19 taco gave me 17 mpg until I reached 1200 miles, then it popped and gave me more.
I try not to pass more than 50 or 45 when possible, 58mph on hwy and I get about 26mpg average p/tank,
even 29.5 on trips(30min avg) if go to neutral on downhills
except when I'm hauling my 2.5k lbs trailer then it gives me about 13 to 14

 

Just got my 2019 trd pro with 700 miles.. put about 60 miles on it... and dash is showing 13.7.. hasnt been over 65mph. Hoping mine gets better. And i have been driving like Miss DAISY to see if it will get better.

 

The issue is more about checking to see if our trucks are functioning in a nominal fashion. If I wanted a good gas milage vehicle I likely would have bought a fucking Prius. In this case, I bought a 4wd Tacoma. Driving like the old man I am and mostly in rural areas, I expected to get better than 12-15mpg. It is perfectly reasonable to post in this forum to check what others are seeing from a similar setup. In my own case, I wonder if the stock sized Duratrac tires on my otherwise stock trd or short bed is having a big impact on milage because, if it is I might use a different set of tires for driving around all normal like. As it is, my truck is a toy and I would have bought it even if the EPA said it got 12 in town and 15 highway. My other cars have come much closer to the epa figures and it’s the same numbskull driver.

knobbier heavier tires are going to drop your mpgs even if they are the same size. You have to remember that epa figure are factory specs in super controlled conditions that are unrealistic. Even my wife's prius doesn't get the estimated epa mpgs and she is a true prius driver. When I drive her prius, I drive it the same as my tacoma and the mpg drops down about 10mpg.

Easier on the accelerator, check psi, and get true highway tires if mpg is what you desire (Firestone Destinations LE2s are the go to tires for this). If you're on flat land, even better. Hills, even gentle rolling hills, will not help your mpg as well.

Here’s almost 2 years of DD history. I drive ~38 miles round trip daily and ~26 of that is highway at 75-80+ mph. The rest is city surface driving. So about 75% highway. I’m not hard on the pedal, but do drive with purpose. I’m bone stock with the Goodyear Kevlars, added OVTune in March of 2018.

You can clearly see my two out of town trips that were 100% highway... those are 75-85 mph when at speed.

21,000 miles and a combined true average of 18.6 mpg.

My 19 trd pro is bone stock with 760 miles... are the pro models geared different ? 13.7 is what dash is showing.. when i get it back from detailer... going to fill up amd do pencil check along with computer. My ecodiesel i just got rid of was pretty accurate .

You don't need a prius when you can get a good mileage out of a v6 taco

 

I have no idea- check for an Eco app on the home screen.

 

I'm at 22mpg after one tank and happy. My last vehicle (2014 Subaru FXT) only got 24 and had to run on premium. The Tacoma computer mpg is pretty close to real life so far. My Subaru one was 2.5mpg over real life

 

I get 18 if I run the bypass at 75-80. 21 if I run 65. So I normally get 19.

 

I've averaged 18.6 mpg (AT) over 25 fill ups, 7500~ miles. Typically fill up around 1/8 tank remaining.

Stock 19 4x4 OR.

 

With my driving cycle I typically get in the 20-22 range. Pretty happy with that. As others have said driving at speed kills mileage. It drops off significantly over 65 mph. At 80 mph I'm seeing about 15 mpg. Also anticipation helps a lot. If you're on the brakes, you're burning gas.

 

My 19 pro has been getting worst fuel eco then my 18 OR.

Average 19 in the pro, but was in the 23 range in the 18 OR, taking the same routes.
I do wonder if it’s the tires though, my OR seemed to be filled up to 37 psi...and my pro seems to be always put to 35 psi

 

I average 18-19 MPG with 285’s and a 2 inch lift for whole tanks in MA at sea level and with low speed limits (55-60) over this summer with mixed city and highway. My dad got 20 MPG on a 80 mile drive the other day which goes to show driving style is a decent bit of it too. I have 50k on the odometer.

I was averaging about 14-15 MPG in Colorado, which was kind of annoying- but like others mentioned anything over 70+ and it starts tanking (most highways are 75 there). I am more than pleased that I can get close to 20 consistently with big tires, a lift, a cap, and weight in the bed.

 

Speed, speed and not burning off fuel with unnecessary braking requiring reaccelerating kills mileage.
On my 80 mph runs to west Texas I am lucky to get 16.5-17 mpg
While on local freeways going 60-70 I can get 23-24.

 

Anything over 60mph and the wind drag starts to take serious effect. I get 24-26mpg when sticking to 60mph(90kmh).
