And another thing I considered was if we did get and RTT and it didnt work out, idk how hard it would be to sell locally. Compared to a regular pop up camper or something.

I have a friend who started out with an rtt on his 4runner. Didn't like it up there so he built a trailer for it. Pulling the trailer was too much of a hassle so he sold it and went back to a ground tent, with plans to buy a regular camper trailer. Take that for what it's worth.
Based on everything I've seen, selling RTT's is generally pretty easy. I bought mine for $1199 shipped and sold it a month later for $1200.

I like mine and acknowledge their faults. It all depends on what you need. Most people would be better with a ground tent, or if frequently mobile/camping then a trailer, in my opinion. I like my tree house lol

I really appreciate all the advice here.

I guess all these options are a good thing.

As long as we get out there, right.

I want a tree house but its pretty pricey. And i don't have a place to storage it during off season!.... I try to camp every two month.... bad habit of mine..... maybe that's why I can't afford a RTT.... :frusty:

I got mine from a guy who also bought it used off of Craigslist. I had to repair the cover straps, but it's done me great. $450 for my multi-owner RTT

That’s the biggest thing that some people fail to realize. Not every set up works for everyone. I didn’t like my rtt, but for some people and their set ups, it works great. Some people are just too die hard about the most random stuff and get upset if someone disagrees with them.

I recently camped for 4 days in 3 different places in a Smittybilt XL with my wife and two kids - ages 9 and 10.

I really enjoyed sleeping in the RTT and it was perfect for the four of us.

After having to set up and fold up a few times, we definitely got the hang of it.

I’m the only one that had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night so that wasn’t an issue.

I’m very happy with the RTT and do not regret the purchase.

I was once camping alone with a dog, but then I went and got a girlfriend and a (then) 3 year old. I had a Tepui Sky Ayer 2, but I sold that and upgraded to a Hi-Vis Overland Crag 4+. We’ve built a trailer for the tent and the excess camping equipment needed. The mattress on the new tent is a California King so I’m excited to see how camping trips turn out.

The wife and I camp in areas where the roads are not conducive to towing a trailer, my wife won’t sleep on the ground with the snakes so the RTT works for us. As mentioned, there are down sides to them such as breaking camp if you want to drive somewhere. Also, the annex takes about a half hour to setup.

I run a 72" 23zwro RTT. Family of 4, ages 7 and 5. Plenty of room now and probably for the next few years. We can always sleep someone (probably me I guess) in the annex if it came to that down the road. Everything has pros and cons.

I love it for the mattress and being off the Ricky or wet ground.

    Kids love the ladder.

Set up a lift in the garage though. You'll want an easy way to take it on and off and that isn't easy with the big ones.
