Talk me out of getting a Ranger!

Using profanity like on an internet forum sure makes you look like a tough guy. I have my opinions on both vehicles and I share them. There are some things I like about the Taco, some things I like about the Ranger. I also dislike things about both. As a potential buyer of either vehicle I like to know the pros and cons.

 

Now if you’re talking about one of these Rangers, there’s no need to talk you outta that. That thing is about to rollover 300k with no problems other than a minor AC issue at 250k. I trust in that truck just as much as any Taco and it’s not even mine



If you’re talking about one of these new jacked up, fake Kardashian rear ended looking Rangers then you’ve got more problems than just picking out a vehicle

 

I’m not a tough guy at all. I like cussing. I don’t equate cussing for toughness.

Your attempt to use tired internet tropes about “tough guys” and “angry” are cute, but don’t distract from the fact that you post repeatedly in the third gen forum to bash a truck you never owned and constantly praise a truck you won’t dare buy.

If you’re gonna troll and get called on it, for God’s sake own up to it.

 

As an aside, two weeks ago we purchased 5 xlts to use as as couriers between job sites and as vehicles for construction support staff.

Too early to make any criticisms. I spent about 45 minutes in one on Friday and frankly, I’m not going to waste anyone’s time until I spend more time behind the wheel and we see how they perform.

 

I already stated I'm avoiding buying the first year of the Ranger due to not buying the first year of a new model. If me calling out weaknesses and double standards bothers you, there's nothing I can do about that. I'll sit back and watch you shout profanities further. But thank you for paying attention to my posts and inciting emotion in you.

 

I've considered the new Ranger and would still like to test drive one at some point but two things make me hesitate, as already stated by others, I'm leery of first year models, especially domestic and secondly, the styling is meh.

Or would you rather talk about how the seats in the Ranger are coated with a substance that cures cancer?

My prediction, when you get back to discussing trucks, it will either be something negative about the third gen or something positive about the Ranger.

Or maybe we’ll get lucky and you’ll do both in one post.

 

To be fair, I’ve seen them leveled, lifted and with bigger rolling stock and it takes away most of the awkwardness of the rear end.

So I’d recommend a test drive....as Tacobella has said, good looks shouldn’t cause you to overlook shortcomings or alternately bad looks to dismiss a better vehicle.

The biggest issue for me would be the issues with the 2.3 in the mustang....and the fact that there is a major overhaul coming to the Ranger sooner than later.

I haven't listed any links because the fuelly results are literally a 2-second search away. Go to fuelly. Type in Ranger. Set engine type to Inline-4 gasoline. The results are 19-20 mpg....which are hardly that different from what the Tacoma gets.


Owners will always be biased and self-report the numbers that validate their purchasing decisions. Fuelly and the car review sites show that the ecoboost doesn't get the average mpg that Ford claims.

 

I'm sure the 2.3l ecoboost is robust enough, but let's be honest...Ford didn't exactly have a stellar reputation with its early ecoboost engines: Direct Injection, oil pans cracking, intercooler issues.

Maybe the later ecoboost versions have seen improvement, but there was a reason why many truck owners, to include diehard Ford loyalists, were skeptical of the ecoboost early on in its introduction.

 

I’m not gonna break down the capability of the Raptor, but I’d pay good money to see you do in your Tacoma (modded or not) what the Raptor can do right off the lot. Is it a blinged out luxury ride as well...yes, fuck yes still capable of curb stomping anything Toyota has ever offered. GTFOH, if Toyota ever steps up and offers something near as legit (trd pro ) Yota nut huggers would be all over it.

 

There’s no excuses your “buddy” is the exception ( if he even exists) turbo failure in Ecoboost engines is a non issue and non issue is an understatement with the millions that are on the road in Fords cars and trucks. Nice (uninformed) try. I would’ve bought your buddies truck cause I’m sure he took it in the pants, fixed and sold just like I used to with the good ol 22r engines that built the brand you might say for Toyota that were notorious for head gasket failure, bought those trucks for pennies on the dollar and sold em back to people who wanted that Toyota reliability

 

The Raptor is designed for high speed desert type racing, it’s not the go to for general off roading. Has it become a status symbol...yes. I wouldn’t buy one personally as I like my own way of customizing a vehicle.

 

Ecoboost is awesome. Love it in my F150. When it comes to Offroad prowess, Ford Raptor is idiotic for anything other than WOT in the desert. Where I live it doesn’t fit between the trees and would run out of gas unless towing a fuel trailer.

99% of guys driving raptors are in orange mirrored Oakleys, with a Monster Energy ballcap. If that’s your look....100% get one.

 

V10 was solid engine in the Superduty, I had one it was perfect for someone not wanting the diesel.
